Senior Year: I Have Zero Motivation

I don’t even know where to start. Senior year just began about a month ago, and I have no idea how I’m gonna do this for 9 more months.

I cannot stand the people at my school. All of the other students are just annoying, mean, cliquey. I’ve pretty much distances myself from all of my friends since they’re so obsessed with popularity and drugs. The teachers at my school couldn’t care less about teaching. They just give a ton of busy work, and then give really difficult tests.

My parents keep fighting and have legit told me that they regret the day I was born.

Is life after high school gonna be better? How can get some motivation?

One day, and one day soon, it will all be over. Just keep that in mind. Do well in school, and think about what you’re doing after. Are you going to college?

Hang in there! I’m sorry those words were spoken to you. Focus on your future. I know 9 months seems like a long time, but it’s not. How about getting a part-time job which would give you some financial freedom and get you out of the house?

@victorbernstein: Unfortunately you are on the receiving end of verbal & psychological abuse. Try not to let it affect your self image.

Yes, things will get much better once you leave a toxic environment. (Hopefully, you will be able to go away for college.)

That’s terrible! Try to do your best for a few more months. Pour your energy into a part time job or non-school EC’s that will allow you time away from those toxic environments. Apply to at least one rolling admission college so you can have an acceptance in hand ASAP. Plus, if you find yourself in a worse state come January when most applications are due, you’ll still have choices for next year. Use the resources available to you (school counselor, school psychologist, etc.) My heart goes out to you.

  1. Life after HS is better.
  2. Talk to your guidance counselor or other trusted adult about this.
  3. The next time you have a doctor’s appt, talk to your doctor about this. Maybe you have some depression.
  4. Think long term: If I do well senior year, I can go to college. I will be away from my parents and the HS kids. I will be learning so I can get a career and move where I want.
  5. Classes: Go to your teachers office hours/help hours and get more help. Look up on line info to get extra help…esp Khan Academy. Try to do all the problems in chapters to make sure you understand them.
  6. Figure out what you want to do after HS…is college possible? Will your parents contribute? Is the military an option?

Yes, please talk to an adult you like and trust. There IS help out there. This is too much for you to try to bear yourself.

@victorbernstein: Do you exercise on a regular basis ? Running, weightlifting, tennis, swimming can all help to develop a positive self image & a positive outlook on life.

You comments regarding other students & about your teachers suggests that you are projecting negative thoughts about yourself & your situation onto others.

You need to get out of your house as much as you can. It seems to be a toxic environment. Get a part time job. Study at the library. Exercise–even if only walking a few miles each day. You need to find an escape which promises a better future. If you have access to counseling, then take advantage of that. If not, try to read some psychology books which relate to your concerns.

Most importantly, understand that your situation & your view on life is only temporary. A positive aspect of enduring such a negative environment is that things will be much better in nine months.

do some stuff outside of school and house
