I’m legacy (what’s super legacy?), URM, and connected to someone moderately famous. I’m quantifying famous by means of number of Google results though.

And I said “as safe.” Not safety. I never called Cornell a safety, so I was moving UChicago to that status.

Dang Millancad, I’m kind of jealous. Cornell is my first choice but I’m white. The only thing I have going for me besides stats which are on the lower end and w/e ECs I have is that I’ll be first generation and hopefully bring diversity since I’m trilingual.

^ dang. i have competition here. Cornell’s not my “safety” but it is one of my top choice schools i’d like to attend. sucks that i’m not a URM, recruit, nor legacy

desi_chick, it’s on! Just kidding, same here. And as long as we apply to different schools we’ll be okay. Who knows, we may even all see each other there or be roommates or something, that’d be so weird!

I did say “as safe” just as you said “as safe”. Note I didn’t say “safety” anywhere in my post either
I never called Cornell a safety, just like you. Don’t assume I didn’t read your post.
…
You’ve said your UW GPA before on CC…don’t pretend you’re innocent
quote=Millancad]My GPA is like a 3.84, probs average for CC.

What’s the difference between “as safe” and “safety” for you, anyways? :p

This is one of those situations where English might be better with cases or some similar, more clear, grammatical system. Our uses of “as safe” were different.

Well, 3.89 is not my GPA.

“As safe” isn’t the same as safety to me at all. Yale is to me “as safe” as Harvard, as in, not safe at all. I would be pretty surprised if I didn’t get into UChicago, and I don’t consider myself to be a person who overestimates my abilities. I’m much more into underestimating myself, for instance, I was sure I would get a 1, perhaps a 2 if I were lucky, on the Calc BC exam. I got a much higher score. But you get what I mean, I hate being disappointed so I way underestimate myself and I do actually believe in those estimations. Nonetheless I would be really, really shocked to not get into UChicago. If I were to give myself a percentage chance of getting into UChicago and Cornell, it’d probably be about the same. But please don’t ask me because I can’t do those kinds of things with numbers.

On Ellis Island there is this sweet graphic which lets you search how many descendants from certain countries and continents are in states. Searches for Africa - (Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, etc.) are hilarious.

I think lots of people underestimate Cornell and use it as their “Ivy Safety”. I don’t think anything can guarantee you acceptance into Cornell as they seem pretty pre-professional and specific (probably want to see some EC’s relating to the field of study).

Random note: my safeties are UCSD and UCLA. My test scores should qualify me…
