Seniors, what are you safeties?

JEZ21 : Agreed. :D

Don’t wanna go to UF : /

^ I’d be really happy if I got into UF…

I’m going to be a junior, but I already have two safeties that I’m pretty sure will stay on my list come senior year: USC and UT Austin (legacy). I might add NYU too, but realistically, that seems like more of a match than a safety.

UT out of state is in no way a safety.

^ Really? I thought legacies helped (my mom went there), but I could be wrong.

Oh wow, you have great safety schools. Just curious, I notice you live in Ann Arbor Michigan and question where would you place University of Michigan- Ann Arbor? Safety, match, reach, top choice, or too close to home ?

UM is a great place! I’d actually be glad to go there if I got rejected everywhere else. I’d say it’s a mid- to high match for me.

Legacy wont do much at UT, especially OOS.

CUNY City College or Hunter College

UF has a 36% admittance rate, lower than UT-Austin. It is hardly a safety school. Jez is frustrated he got rejected and had to go to FSU, the school where UF rejects attend.

I think to a lot of people safety status is more based on the Freshman profile - SAT/ACT scores, class rank, GPA. If those are a good bit lower than their own, people often consider the school a safety, regardless of acceptance rate.

San Jose State, and probably some other state schools.

safeties are carnegie mellon, tufts and bu

you cant use those as safeties ? :/

i can use bu as a safety =]

Carnegie Mellon Incoming Freshman

BU will reject you if you’re overly qualified and it’s clear to them you have no interest in attending.

pigsatsea you might want to reconsider your safety schools, so that you don’t end up having nowhere to go

tufts - ever heard of tufts syndrome?!?! it’s also becoming more competitive as a school, so don’t assume that high scores will blow them away in 2010

bu - low acceptance rate. they also hate being used as a safety

cmu - you’re asian and your sat1/sat2 are 2290/2280. their acceptance rate will be close to 20% next year(us news is a few years behind). this is a high match for you, not a safety.

i was trying to resist calling out people’s choices, but you’re putting yourself in a bad situation

I don’t have a safety, I wish I did though. The only school I might have a better chance of getting into is UConn since I am in-state and my sister goes there. But, it’s getting pretty tough to get in, so I am not sure.

I dont know your stats, but I’d highly recommend Temple. It’s very popular with people from CT.
