mmm i'm not sure about that...they told me after the interview (and also it's somewhere on the FAQs or something) that the application are rolling, but you could hear back as late as that date.

i don't know, maybe they just say that but do what you said, which is tell everyone on the same day.

Does anyone know what updating your application with partner firms does? If they don't give you an interview, are you out of the running for them?

has anyone applied to the accounting positions and gotten a phone interview yet? If so, what were the questions like and were they friendly or very serious?

also, has anyone heard from the 2nd round (Dec 15th deadline) ?

So I just got a follow-up interview sprung on me earlier today. It wasn't as smooth as the others as I had zero preparation and was not expecting one at all, but there weren't any real new questions. Anyone else gotten a phone follow-up?

was the phone follow up after the in person interview? I've only had the initial phone interview and in person interview and was hoping to hear from them sometime soon.. what program did you apply to?

This is really not making much sense. Many banks are selecting and interviewing students for IB in mid-january and normally, at least in the other threads, many of the 1st round students were accepted by this time.

If students are chosen for SEO at the latest possible point (Jan. 23), it puts SEO in a bad position because students may have been rejected from certain IBs and that precludes them from being placed there through SEO, whereas if they had been accepted earlier they wouldn't apply to many other banks. I'm sure by now SEO knows all the students they have for the 1st round, as well as those who are qualified via interview etc. that have already been conducted.

Congrats bra1! This probably means you're in good shape.

JohnnyBoy, you're putting way too much thought into this. Every year is different and it makes total sense that this year things are much slower given the current market.

Thanks. And yea I had my in person back in mid-November. Asset management. I was thinking the same thing as JohnnyBoy13 in regard to waiting so long to notify the admitted applicants though. It does put the students at a disadvantage.

But looking at it the another way, SEO may still be working with partners to see exactly how many positions they have before admitting any students to the program.

This market in itself is an anomaly and I dont expect anything less from the players in it.

Yes i heard back and i applied to the second round. I had my telephone interview on the 23 of december and just got an email saying i passed on to the in person interview.

what kinds of questions did they ask you in the follow up call? i'm thinking that's a good sign if they want to talk to you more than just the first two rounds of interviews.. has anyone gotten a follow up call that applied to corp finance?

just had s&t in-person interview in ny. was asked why seo, why s&t, talk about a current event in the market (auto industry crisis), pitch a stock, 2 mental math questions (x % of y and x^y), and a case to figure out the price of a convertible bond per share, given a bunch of info.

overall went pretty well, hoping for a third call i guess? what was asked in the 3rd call

anyone heard back yet? is january 15th the deadline or is it the 23rd? on the application page it says the 15th but on their website it says the 23rd.. i'm surprised no one has heard back yet..

Every candidate's situation is different, please do not rely on these anecdotes when making decisions about your future.

We will have a robust program this summer. We have positions and we have admitted students. Because we have rolling admissions, we are continually reviewing applications and not everyone hears back at the same time.

You will hear back from us anytime between when you submitted your application and the decision notification date for your round (Round 1 Nov 1st: January 23, Round 2 December 1st: February 22, Round 3 January 31st: March 22).

Interviews are by invitation only and we do not interview all applicants. You will either be invited to interview or you will receive a decision letter notifying you that you have not been selected.

By posting our interview questions on this and other sites, you are making it easier for your competition to perform well in the interview. We advise you to keep that information to yourself.

We understand that this is a stressful process and we are more than willing to help you navigate it. Please reach out to us at any time with your concerns. Our email address is careerprogram@seo-usa.org and our phone number is 212-979-2040.

THIS IS AN OFFICIAL POST FROM THE SEO CAREER PROGRAM

Sorry to all of those who applied in the first round (Nov 1.) I am almost certain that you all will be waitlisted or denied if you haven't been notified by now. I am really not trying to be mean, but its the reality...I haven't even gotten a phone interview and my GPA and 3.7.

Spamming a message on every major thread regarding SEO is not going to change the perceptions that have been created by the hundreds of posts by individuals who have first-hand experience in dealing with your organization. Don't be so naive.

Companies may very well be hiring for interns this summer, but to say this year's class will be "robust" seems a little skewed to me.

I think students will be better off applying to companies on their own via personal networks and company websites rather than having to go through SEO's lengthy third-party application process. Add in the fact that you don't even get to choose which company you intern with once accepted, and that you have running obligations to SEO that will eat a chunk of your time once in, you may be better served by applying to the source directly.

I don't have a standing grudge with SEO. As a matter of fact you should apply if you want to, so as to increase your chances of landing something. I'm just letting you know my experiences and what worked for me, and my experience tells me that one of SEO's biggest flaws is their seemingly arbitrary hiring process.
