September 2010 ACT English Discussion

There was a question that was like “how did the first sentence in x paragraph…something something else”

Yes to latina and Acttester, got both those answers

Was there an answer like “to poke fun at Americans”?

YESS!!! The question to which i am referring has this as an option. The other option was that the comments were not well received or something

But “to poke fun at Americans” was not an ANSWER, i don’t think. It was one of the options but it is NOT correct.

Oh, then I put to poke fun at Americans. They were talking about how Americans lacked refinement in the second paragraph.

R u sure airfreshner, I got “to poke fun at Americans” as an answer

But I’m not sure exactly what the question was asking though I’m pretty sure it was poking fun.

^yes but the question was asking what the following paragraph was about? The 2nd paragraph was talking about the unrefinement but the third paragraph was talking about how the England people would be horrified if Something happened but americans would think that the virtues criticized by the author were important. Does any1 know what i mean?

It IS correct. The passage described the english lady’s “humorous” (there was a different word for this) writing or something.

I think these are two different questions…

^yea that’s what im thinking

Meh, it would help if someone remembered the question correctly. Vince?

I had “poke fun” at first, but then later in the reading, she remarked how she thought Americans carried good conversation and were good people or something to that extent. I don’t even remember what I ended up choosing.

Eh Whatever. I dont even care at this point. I will retake in october and give my best shot then. This was pretty much w/ minimal prep. Screw this **** lol

^^ Yeah exactly, she didn’t actually criticize us but she did poke fun. They’re two different things.

NO this was how the Americans interpreted it

^yea!!! that was mentioned in the last paragraph, which was irrelevant to the question i am talking about.

Ok, this is getting too confusing. Gnight everyone.

I’m also going to sleep, and stop thinking about this damn test lol

I am totally confused.
