***SEPTEMBER 2015 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

I just started studying for the test about a week ago with Barron’s 36 and ACT red book. I am Aiming for a 32 or higher and I got a 24 Freshman year, I am a rising Junior now. I’ve been taking some practice tests and have been consistently been scoring 30 or over on all of the sections. Does this sound normal?

I was so busy with life that I forgot to register for the ACT September sitting. Now I’m on stand by testing :expressionless:

How are you guys preparing for the science section. I can’t get over a 27. Please help.

@ZainSD Dang. Goodluck. Haven’t had the time to study as much as I wanted to

Got a 31 on the April ACT and I’m just looking to raise my science score! I usually get in the mid-20’s and I’m aiming for a 28 or higher. any tips?

I got a 32 last year in September 2014 as a junior (E: 32 M: 34 R: 27 S: 34) with no prep. Totally messed up on the reading because since I always had sooo much time left on the SAT reading, I thought I would for ACT but the proctor told me I had 8 minutes left when I was done with the second story -_- had to guess most of the last story.

I am hoping for a 34+ and studied using the red book, black book (for strategies), and released practice tests.
Anyone have any recommendations for further texts I should use?
I am hoping for 36 on math and science
and 34 on English and 32+ on reading

On (red book and released official ACT) practice tests, I am averaging anywhere from 32-35 composite. Are the released ACT practice tests and the red book accurate representations of what I might get in a 2015 ACT test?
agghh freaking out and ripping my hair

Are September ACTs usually difficult?

I have 2 questions:

  1. What do you guys think about the new essay?
  2. Is it too late to take it in Sept as a senior? What about October?

Patel,

  1. The new essay looks intimidating compared to the previous version, but it’s really not that hard. You can easily do Intro, 3 Body paragraphs (1 per Perspective), Conclusion. But I strongly recommend you do at least 1-2 essays at home to prepare your mind mentally for the new essay format.

  2. Not too late to register for Sept. The late deadline is Aug 21. You’ll have to pay a late fee and you’ll prob be shut out of many schools because they’re full, but you can still register. And you have until Sept 18 (Regular deadline) to sign up for the Oct test.

Ok I have already registered for September (retaking it). But I was just wondering because I’m applying soon.

oh my god I’m doomed. I want a 34+ on the ACT. I’ve been studying all summer and my recent diagnostic showed I had a composite score of 33 (31E/35M/31R/33S) which is basically the equivalent of my SAT score. I usually get perfect on Math too. Any additional resource suggestions?

I’ve never taken the test before. Right now I have a 26 through the red book practice tests. 26C 26E 26M 28R 22S

What is a realistic goal to try to reach in a month of prep? (I prepped for this score but only went from a 24 to a 26). I am using prep scholar. I seem to have trouble with timing with all sections except English. Thanks for any tips.

@ZainSD Does ACT require photo for admission ticket?

@juggu96 I have my photo on my admission ticket…

Guys I’m freaking out right now! I literally just found out that there is a new format. I registered for the sept. ACT and am really scared the new essay and changes will screw me up. And I NEED to do good on this test. Does anyone have any tips or advice to prepare for the new ACT???

I feel like the ACT is screwing us over!! Help!!

Don’t panic. Go through some of the earlier posts in this discussion thread. You’ll find plenty of useful information on the new essay and other changes.

Why would they tell us now about the change? wtf…

I mean it’s not like it’ll affect the Writing section as a whole. The essay won’t mean everything so we should all calm down :stuck_out_tongue:

@juggu96 Yes.

@michelle426 You can use http://convertyourscore.org/ to convert your ACT to an SAT equivalent, or vice versa. You actually get a separate score for English/Writing, and a score that resembles Critical Reading/Math based on your composite score. You add the two, and you get your SAT equivalent.

@ZainSD how do I send it?
