After taking about 30 ACT practice and real tests my score is hovering around 34, BUT I have only taken 2 writing tests simply because I dont know how to grade it. Any tips
Hey guys how is the new ACT Scored will they divide it by 5 and include the Writing/Essay as a part or will it be the same as the previous one with the essay not counting towards the composite score?
^see Post #134 in this discussion. You’ll get your answers there.
@mmk2015 Thanks, now I can rest easy knowing that the essay isn’t counted in the composite score! Also, there was a post in this thread that talked about a format to writing the new essay do any of you know where it is? Greatly appreciate your help!
^Here is one way you can do the new Essay (which I reposted below from my Post #139 in this discussion).
I would prob do 5 paragraphs:
–Introduction.
–Body 1.
–Body 2.
–Body 3.
–Conclusion.
Each Body would represent a Perspective.
Body 1 and 2 would present the two opposite Perspectives.
Body 3 would present the Perspective that you support.
So for body 3, do you think it’s fine to write in first person because it’s a perspective that “I” support or no?
As long as it’s a well argued essay, it doesn’t matter if you write in the 1st person or not.
Some will argue that you should avoid the 1st person. But the Essay is asking you for your opinion, so it’s basically telling you you can write in the 1st person.
The writing section will NOT count towards your composite. That has not changed.
The writing will be scored on he 36 point scale, just like the other sections. This IS a change from the 2-12 scoring system.
IF you take the writing section you will get an ELA Score that combines W/E/R.
@Joemalia Here is a link to the scoring rubric
This should help you

Quick question, all the info you need to answer Science questions are stated in the passage right? Because I’m doing this practice test with PR and they have a question like what is process Chlorophyll associated with? And what kingdom is Algae classified in. There is NO WHERE in the passage that states that Algae is protist and Chlorophyll is associated with photosynthesis. I got one of them right because i took a biology class. I read the explanation and it says the definition of protist is blah, so it is correct because all algae are protist. Im like… REALLY??
@idkName The practice tests from Princeton Review aren’t always accurate, use the Red Book
@idkName there will be 4-5 “prior knowledge” science questions.
I have studied the released tests tests, and I see very BASIC science questions about these topics come up frequently:
Biology
Plant and Animal Cell Biology
DNA, RNA, and Ribosomes
Dominent and Recessive Genes
Chemistry
Basic Molecule Structure
Freezing/Boiling Point of Water
pH
Molar Mass Concepts
Positive and negative charges
Physics
Gravity
Density in relation to volume and mass
Density
Brush up on these.
I am going to begin to start studying for the September ACT tomorrow. I have the red book. Will that suffice? And how should I spread out everything, since there are only 5 practice tests? Should I bother reading all the stuff in the red book that helps you on the questions?
How much time do I have if I wish to change my test date from September to October?
You can change it any time I believe but before the test date.
Less than 3 days left until the ACT… yikes
@clichescreenname I thought the ACT is on September 13th
@maaz97 OMG my bad, I have no clue why I wrote days. I meant to type 3 weeks instead of days. Sorry for any confusions…
