Rumors are pretty rampant here that USAFA is going to bring back SERE in all it’s glory. It was taken away after the class of '95 went through it and replaced with CST (which ended after '07 went through it). My roomate, a USAF prior, told me that the Air Force is really struggling to put people through Fairchild SERE and if it was at the Academy, it would really ease problems. I am about to be a 3 degree so I dont know if I will get to do it. Any info???

what is Sere??

ha, yes, isnt this where cadre are allowed to break "small bones" ?

yes it is. My one "phobia" that would prevent me from ever being an orthopedic doctor is the sight or imagining broken bones or limbs in the wrong direction....thus.....SERE kinda scares me honestly.

What kind of things break small bones during SERE?

people break your fingers to emulate torture....

that's what i was afraid you were going to say...
this does scare me.
do they always do it?

from my understanding.....yes. lol, but many less strong of the mind have completed it. It's "only" 3 days IIRC

From stories I have read, I'm pretty sure they can also do other things other than breaking bones or dislocating joints...the phrase "beat session" takes on a whole new meaning...

Of course, these stories are from a little bit back on the time scale, so they may have toned it down since.

This both scares and excites me at the same time. I rather enjoy the adrenaline rush from both fear and pain. I think it will make us mentally tougher. Although, I don't think that breaking a finger really sounds like it will be good for the body.

They do it in such a way that it heals quickly and basically doesn't do any permanent damage, just produces a lot of pain.

Oh, well in that case, bring it on! :)

What year will we do SERE if it comes back? It is the summer after 3-dig year right?

I think its summer after 4 dig year. Or maybe that's just for CST. Honestly, I just don't see them bringing back SERE, but CST seems reasonable.

if SERE does eventually come back, it is summer after 4 dig year. most likely tho it will only be CST that comes back.

Aww, darn. CST doesn't even include the breakage of small bones :)
