Has this severe weather affected anyone else? Surely it has! We are changing plans and hoping for the best! Anyone else?Getting to Chicago could be interesting!
It’s already snowing in NYC and for those who were there this weekend and are leaving today, they will likely encounter delays. My D was in the city for the past several days, and actually was assisting at some of the weekend auditions, but has postponed her scheduled departure today. She is using it as an opportunity to stay and see a few more shows. She was in the city during their worst storm in 2006 and loved every minute of it. Crazy kid!
We were all so lucky at NY Unifieds! This weather just missed messing up that weekend by 2-3 days… I hope we’re as lucky for Chicago!
It’s supposed to over by Wednesday on the East Coast.
@alwaysamom, you D will have a hard time seeing any shows. If they are Broadway, all shows are cancelled.
The shows her friends are in that she’ll now be able to see are dark on Mondays anyway, so it isn’t a problem. She’ll be there til Friday now.
So far very little, if any snow predicted for Chicago. Of course, that can change… Fingers crossed!
Two different forecasts right now for Chgo this weekend:
One has 1 inch or less of snow Sunday.
The other has 4-8 inches Saturday into Sunday.
Woohoo! Welcome to my hometown!
We arrived yesterday, thankfully. It is supposed to go from snow storm to snow blizzard at 2PM Chicago time today. Good luck to everyone. Many will miss todays dance calls, I imagine. Hopefully all the colleges will understand and make arrangements
Our train has been delayed drastically. (Nearly 3 hours). We will miss 1st Audition. I imagine airports are worse. @MTParents2015 did you catch your flight?
Otterbein sent out emails saying they will do their best to reschedule anyone affected by the storm.
Wishing safe travels to all. Try not to worry. (easier said than done I know). Make sure you communicate as soon as possible with any school for whom you may miss your audition time. The schools will do their best to see you if your travel plans are delayed. They know this is out of your control. The important thing is to arrive safe and sound. And they will most appreciate those who let them know of any delays so they can see others during that time.
D’s Connecting flight to Chicago just left on time from NC, while D’s aunt flying in from Atlanta is delayed due to weather in Chicago. Shouldn’t they both be delayed, or not delayed if the weather at the final destination is the same regardless of where they are flying from? Should I be worried that one airline is being reckless, or grateful for the lack of delay? Do I really need one more thing to worry about?!? Geez!
Often the delay is because the airplane you are to fly on has yet to get to your airport and is not so much about the weather at your destination. So it is most likely D’s plane was in NC and ready to depart on time for Chicago while aunts plane may have been delayed elsewhere during the day and was not yet in Atlanta so couldn’t leave on time. Try not to worry ( I know - easier said than done). Chicago is used to snow and deals with it really well. Wishing safe travels to all!

Yes we made it @pghmusician Just barely. Moved flight to 545 am and just beat the bad part of the storm. We are here and very fortunate to be here.
Interesting thought- and done with tongue firmly in cheek. Reading back over several years of threads- there has often been a weather problem associated with NY and Chicago Unifieds- (after all, these cities - esp Chicago- get winter weather) Could it be some kind of secret test to see how prospective students handle a crisis? After all, the true test in theater isn’t how things go when everything is flowing exactly as rehearsed, but what happens when someone misses an entrance, or the tech element doesn’t work, or the power blows… If we are reading into everything else (and I know I was last year) could be just one more piece of the puzzle!
HA! I think it’s just cheaper. Who would go to Chicago in Feb intentionally?! I bet the conference rates are dirt cheap.
Location, location, location! They need accessibility to the largest number of schools and kids. Transportation (planes, trains and automobiles) is plentiful to these sites, as are hotel rooms and meeting space. These appear to be the best choices for the majority of people to get to easily and cost and time effectively.
New York and Chicago are also the two biggest theatre markets in the country. Most of our kids who make a living as actors will eventually work in one or both of these markets. The need to negotiate travel in these two weather-prone cities won’t end with Unifieds.
This fact is fresh in my mind as I spent much of yesterday in touch with working actors stuck at airports in both NYC and Chicago trying to get to each others’ cities.
True that.
