Oh No Snow !!??

Eeeek! Weather forecasts are now predicting snow in Chicago on Saturday. Son and dad flying in Saturday afternoon from the East Coast. I know forecasts can change and I'm starting my "no snow" dance now!

How much are they calling for? Areas that are used to snow can handle a few inches no problem. When I lived in Syracuse it had to get over a foot before anyone batted an eyelash.

Please don’t direct it to Atlanta! We don’t need anymore snow or ice!

OHEMGEE!!! I just looked at the forecast. Snowing a bit from Friday to Saturday afternoon- 2-4 inches. Our flight is out of Raleigh at 8:20 am. EEEEEK!!! At least it’s the 2nd flight of the day so we should have options. UGH!!!

I am crossing my fingers that those of you with Saturday flights will arrive on schedule. Ours is Sunday…I think we will be ok. I am more worried about the flight home. We have to get her back to school on Thursday.

In the Midwest we’ve had plenty of practice dealing with snow already this winter, so I doubt a couple inches will impact travel much (especially if spread across several hours). If it exceeds that 4" estimate it may get a bit dicey, or if it comes in a short period. But fingers crossed for your fliers that there won’t be problems. We’ll be driving out (from Ohio) on Sunday and I expect the roads will be clear by then.

But for those of you not accustomed to winter weather, do bring coats and layers to wear. Fortunately the temps are forecast for teens and 20s, which is warmer than it has been out here recently. Today is first day our kids have had school this week due to the low temps.

Come to LA Unifieds! It’s 77 degrees here! B-)

LA Unifieds is looking better and better, but Chicago it is. In the words of Tim Gunn, we’ll “make it work!”

Layers are great… and nothing beats a scarf for keeping you warm. Even indoors it my still be cool. Wear a fashion scarf… Warm neck, warm body.

LA Unifieds would have been perfect for us (coming from AZ) but a couple of schools we need won’t be there. Thus this craziness of leaving 75 degrees for freezing temps and snow. What an adventure! I grew up in Michigan, so this isn’t so foreign, at least. Crossing fingers for everyone flying/driving in during the snow!

The key to staying warm in the cold and snow is to keep your feet warm. Good boots, thick socks. If your feet get cold, the rest of you is cold no matter how many layers. Take it from one who grew up in Buffalo.

We are in Maine so the cold won’t be an issue. I just worry that there will be a domino effect and the flights will begin to cancel. If it is a dry snow it will just blow off the runway. They change planes in Philadelphia, no direct flights from our neck of the woods.
It never even occurred to me to have them go to the LA Unifieds, fool that I am, but I think there were a couple schools that only went to Chicago. So glad to have this leg of the journey almost over!

LA Unifieds would be nice as I grew up in So Cal and my parents still live out there. But it didn’t make sense with D’s total audition schedule. Now as it turns out I’ll be out there in a couple weeks anyway for other reasons.

Second on the warm socks/boots, it does make a big difference. And scarfs can be good too, not sure why I haven’t gotten mine out this year.

Now the forecast says 3-5 inches of snow in Chicago Saturday.

I saw that! My mother put it into perspective as I was mini-freaking out. She said that if we can’t get there, neither can the college reps. Good point, Mom!

And the weather report now says that there is 100% chance of snow - so no more wondering “if” it will snow! Just the little matter of how much will it impact travel…

Does the snow concern me? Yes. I’ll be glad when my plane arrives safely at the gate at O’Hare. Am I concerned about the snow in downtown Chicago-- well, not really. They’re used to this and can probably handle it quite nicely. We’ve had 7" of snow on the ground and cold temps (15-20 degree highs) here in VA for the last several days, so I keep reminding myself that it’ll be the same conditions while we’re in Chicago.

Would I rather be in a place with clear sidewalks and 50 degrees (or more) outside? Heck yes, but we don’t have that option, and we’ll just have to make the best of it. Plus-- It’ll just be part of the awesome story we’ll tell about our child’s Chicago Unified Audition experience!

We just need to get to Chicago at some point on Saturday! Auditions start Sunday.

Us, too, GSOMTMom. Our plane is scheduled to land at 1pm on Saturday. First audition isn’t until 1pm on Sunday. I built that extra time into our schedule just for this reason (snow). Like I said-- I’ll be REALLY glad when my plane pulls up to that final gate.

You and me both! We’re due to arrive at 9:25 am, so there’s plenty of time to catch a later flight in case what we don’t want to happen happens!!
