Sexual Orientation Thread

hatersunite, an Italian-American classmate of mine told me that Italy is largely racist towards Black people. Her grandmother is from Italy. I wonder if it’s true.

Yes, we are way more accepting when it comes to sexuality compared to places like the Middle East and the Carribbean but we still have a ways to go. Places in Europe allow gays to marry; even our north-of-the-border buddy Canada allows us to have marriages, not just civil unions, and receive the same rights as married straight couples. Why is America so hesistant when it comes to two guys being in love and getting married?

I’m 16 and gay. (Male)

Seems like only one other person here has admitted they are. However, I’ll correct one on something.

" Not necessarily hatersunite. AIDS isn’t running rampant in the gay community like articles stated in the past, it’s more prevalent in Black females. Plus, I’m going to make a guy get a STI test before I have sex with him (maybe before I kiss him since oral herpes can be trasmitted through the mouth even if there’re no signs left), meaning no one-night-stands or hookups with strangers for me. If he won’t get one, he’s not worth my time. "

Isn’t running rampant in the gay community? Show me your statistics. Instead of throwing a bunch at you, I just want to hear why you believe its more prevalent in black females. Yes, they are significantly on the rise, but not topping the gay community.

“During the 1990s, the epidemic shifted steadily toward a growing proportion of AIDS cases among black people and Hispanics and in women, and toward a decreasing proportion in MSM, although this group remains the largest single exposure group.”
MSM = Men who have sex with other Men.

No one-night stands and hookups are definitely a good way to go. Especially if you can avoid it during high school. Gay and lesbian youth are tempted too much. I’ve made a couple mistakes but with nobody dirty thank god… and I’ve been tested.

But anywayyyyy… Yeah… not too many gays in this sexual orientation thread. Most of us aren’t CC quality students, though :)

I am bi and proud of it.
No, not fake bi like the girls you see who make out with other girls just to turn guys on. The bi that has had meaningful, long-term relationships with both sexes.
Parents both kind of know but it’s not discussed. I’m cool with that. Friends all know and don’t care.

It’s the “cool” thing to do around here, apparently.

I don’t know personally anyone gay in my school, though I know last year there were some gay students, two of whom were in a relationship with each other. It just isn’t broadcast because my school is Catholic and a bit conservative. Which is strange, because our state is not conservative.

Wow, glad to see the thread’s turned around finally! It was getting really off track.

“The bi that has had meaningful, long-term relationships with both sexes.”

^I didn’t know they existed, that’s news to me.

You are wrong if you think gender makes any difference in politics. Wars are not fought because men are aggressive. They are fought over money. And women are just as greedy, if not more, than men when it comes to money.

Are you trying to be offended? It looks like Millancad intentionally avoided suggesting that.

Italian thing sounds like B.S. Actually I’d probably say we are less racist than northern euros.

And America is hesitant because we are fairly religious. That’s really all there is to it. Most Americans are religiously against gay marriage. They should just reform the laws so that civil unions receive the same benefits as marriages. It will make the gays happy and it will keep the heavily religious happy because they aren’t technically married.

Milancad said she wasn’t sure. I was just saying that in general terms. Not directed at her.

Black people are very uncommon in much of Europe, which may lead to racism or at least the perception of it.

Great point. I don’t get that trend either. I’d much rather have a girl making out with me than with another girl. Makes no sense to me.

Aw, I planned to move to Europe one day too.

hatersunite, while you do make a good point, religious people’s religion should play no part or influence law-making because of seperation of church and state. Seems like that’s gone out the window unfortunately. I’d be happy with civil unions with the same benefits as marriage but I’d be even happier if it was called marriage since that’s what it is.

Feminists annoy me.

I believe in marriage equality because of the First Amendment. Quakers, Reform Jews, Mainline Lutherans, and Unitarians should be given the same freedom to practice their religion as Catholics and Baptists. Of course, constitutional protection also prevents conservative churches from being forced to participate in these in gay marriages, which is exactly as it should be.

Look, I agree with you that church and state should be separate. However, religion plays a major role in our government and it’s dumb to deny it.

I don’t want you guys to blow up on me but, I’m marginally Christian and I only really believe that a marriage involves a man and a woman (in the religious sense). IDK call me a bigot if you want but I think it’s the natural relationship. Though it wouldn’t bother me to call it a marriage legally.

Good for you! The first amendment allows you to hold this belief, so long as you do not attempt to enforce it on others.

Yeah don’t get me started on my opinions of them.

Look, the feminists who looked for suffrage and equal rights were fine by me. However, current feminists are really just sexist females IMO. They are trying to eliminate sex roles when sex roles are natural human tendencies. Plus, most of them hate men which makes them miserable people. They discriminate against men. I’m pretty sure there are ZERO men in this country that hate women. Makes no sense.

I have always held out hope that the following would happen. (It would ruin modern day feminists.)

The U.S. gets involved in another war and Congress institutes the draft. Females are put into the draft just like men. Equality right?

Yup, that’s pretty much modern-day feminism in a nutshell.

I never said it didn’t, I said it shouldn’t. Just because religion plays a part in our government doesn’t make it right. They’re corrupt politicians and police officers but is that okay? This “accept reality as it is and get used to it” mentality is really backwards when you look at our country’s history.

Even though I think you’re totally wrong with your opinion on what a marriage is, you have all the right to believe it. As long as you aren’t trying to make it into law, it’s fine by me.
