S is OOS - He's pretty much a solid B student, a few AP courses, 25 ACT. He applied to SFSU and was recently turned down. We still haven't heard from CSUMB, the only other UC school he applied to. Is it easier for OOS applicants to get in CSUMB? I've been assuming it is, since the application deadline wasn't shortened there. Or should we expect another rejection?

Truthfully, I wouldn't count on it. Sure, they didn't stop accepting applications early, but there were probably still thousands of extra in-state kids who applied up until the regular deadline.

Good luck though. It's just an especially bad year to be in the wrong county for CSUs, let alone the wrong state.

thanks for the response. I know CA has had serious budget problems this year, but was not sure how that would affect OOS applicants. there was some hint that more OOS students might be admitted, since they pay so much more than in-state, but I guess that didn't happen. (We applied to a couple of CA schools, because my H is from there, went to SJSU, and still has family in the Bay area.)
