Sharing Instagram / social media account in application?

I’m applying to several UC’s & top schools (Ivies, MIT, etc), and I believe my academics / test scores are well-qualified for the most part. I wrote some of my essays about my vegan food & photography page on Instagram – my greatest commitment outside of school. I truly want the colleges to see my work (a very unique “art” form, in my opinion).

Is it enough that I focus a few essays (and Personal Statement) on my food photography experience, and mention the name of my webpage? Or would it be appropriate if I submit an arts portfolio with my best images (some of which are still in the works)?

Thank you!

If a college allows an optional art portfolio, I would do i there.

If it’s visual art you’re talking about, the arts portfolio would probably be the best place for it. That being said, I shared the handle of my (poetry) Instagram account in my activities list. There’s no right or wrong answer, but if you want to make sure they actually look at your art and don’t just skim past it, I’d go with arts portfolio.

Art Portfolios are often reviewed by the Fine Arts Department at colleges. I’m not sure if what you are describing fits that purpose.

All elite colleges & universities respect talent & value creative intelligence and abilities.

Why don’t you share your account here with us? As a vegan, I would definitely love to read your essays. And why you want to share it with the colleges? Didn’t think that could be interesting for someone else? Spread your word!
