I have been obsessing about S’s summer internships all month, scouring Twitter and this weird audition bulletin board to see if anyone’s been accepted yet. So don’t think it’ll be over just because your kids get in. (He got shortlisted yesterday for the big one, so I think I will try to go back to my normally scheduled life now.)

jkelllynh17, what internships did he apply to?

What is the weird audition bulletin board?

The big one, that we just heard about, was Texas Shakespeare Festival. He didn’t get an offer, but he’s on the on-call list, which means that if someone breaks a leg (literally I mean), he might still get to go. 1400 people audition for 22 slots, so we were really, really pleased that he made it as far as he did as a freshman. There are some local Chicago things as well that might still come through. (Chicago is somewhat like NYC in that there are auditions for jobs all over the country right there.)

The board is called Audition Update and it’s here: http://auditionupdate.com/index.php?s=2

It’s mostly NYC-centric but it does give you a flavor of a life in theater.

Wow, that’s terrific! Congratulations!!!

Thank you…he definitely has an interesting life going. We were in a very dark space this time last year, as many of you are, and I am really glad that we had faith and rode it out.

I’ve checked the mail box three times today. beats head against wall

Hang in there! I was reading “Far from the Tree” the whole time we were going through this, and every time I woud finish a chapter I’d be like, “Okay, we don’t know where (or whether) he’s going to college, but at least he’s not schizophrenic/deaf/a dwarf” etc. (No offense to anyone who’s kids are…it’s a good book about being human and flawed and just going forward.) It really helped put everything into perspective.

jkellynh17 - thanks for that laugh and reality check! I needed it!

jkellynh17, thanks for the audition site link.

For everyone who is waiting for the news-- my sympathy! I wish you all to hear good news from your kids’ top choices very soon! When you will (and I am sure you all will!), things will change in a second! Then, few days later, you will start researching, thinking and discussing which school to choose, lol! And what your kid should do at summer. But I admit, those worries are much more delightful than worrying if your child goes to college next year or takes a gap year. That thought haunted me and literally made me cry almost every day. Good luck in this stressful waiting time!

D got a call from Ken Washington this evening - she was accepted to the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theatre Actor Training Program! She is over the moon - she didn’t think she had a chance, but went for it anyway! NEVER be afraid to chase your dreams!

Wow!! Congrats! So happy for your daughter. Great message- NEVER be afraid to chase your dreams!!

Congrats, jkelly and S! Is it wrong to hope someone does break a leg so we can see your wonderful S perform in Texas this summer?

Congratulations mountainhiker!!! That’s so awesome!

Yay Mountainhiker and D!!! So nice to read good news!!

Oh mountainhiker that is fabulous, what a fantastic program! And thank you @austinmt, he will definitely try again next year.

Congrats mountain hiker and jelkelyn. It is so inspirational to hear about teens who are living their dreams :). And so awesome to get into your first choice school !

Congratulations @mountainhiker!

Haflokum, I must be the most absent-minded person in the world, but I thought you had a daughter currently at Tisch. Do you also have a son in the mix this year? Your story does sound incredibly nerve-wracking! ^^
