Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

Msmommy, hope your flight went smoothly this morning. Heard from a couple of friends this morning. Streets are cleared in NYC, and all schools are open.

msmommy, are u the family from Utah with ties to CMU?

halflokum, your story is hilarious!! I fully understand as I know JFK quite well. I wouldn’t have been above tears myself (and probably a fair amount of cussing)! LOL

When my daughter was in the audition process, a blizzard hit NYC and flight after flight were being cancelled. We decided at the spur of the moment to take the train and it was the best decision we could have made as all the flights ended up being cancelled through that Friday. Stress. Now I can look back, shake my head and laugh.

We did some train trips too, photomom, and it worked really well for us; only had one delay, very little stress, you can move around, and there’s just something really fun about looking out of train windows!

I agree, trains are much better than planes or buses. Going to NYC, it’s wonderful to be right in Midtown already.

Which is why my son takes the train to come home! Easy on, easy off. And a benefit from living on the East coast!!!

Half I love your psychomom story, U Awesome! I wanted to hit like to your posts but there is no like button.

I really really enjoyed reading this thread, because I would be one to “do whatever it takes” also…best of luck to all auditioning. My D goes to a performing arts high school, and several of her friends are making the trip to NYC unifieds today. Mine is going the BA route and auditioning for lots of scholarships, but not program auditions.

May the force/fortitude/sense of humor and get 'er done be with you :-)

Yes! We’re here in NYC! ctl987…yes, my husband went to NYU…many moons ago. S auditioned at Juilliard today. We were there from 8 a.m. Until about
2:30 unfortunately no call back
but he’s cool. It was a long shot. Wondering how Josh faired.

Sorry. Typing on my phone not my forte. My husband attended CMU, not NYU. Long day. One thing I’m loving is my husband’s recommendation to use Uber
Cars. You set up an acct. with
them and contact via phone when
you want to be picked up. We’ve
not waited more than 5 minutes
for a car to arrive. May be pricey,
not sure because we just jump out at destination and they send son
the receipt on his phone, he
selects a tip percentage and we’re
done. It’s been a nice luxury since it’s so cold. Hope everyone is having a great audition experience.

Break a leg to one and all this weekend! Thank you all so much for the distraction. I know it is hectic, but if nothing else it makes the time fly between hitting “submit” and hearing back which could drag until April. I don’t remember any downtime that allowed for boredom to set in during the college application process with my theatre daughter. My non-theatre, senior son on the other hand is bored and in limbo waiting for news from 9 schools and March feels like a long way off. I’ve been reading this forum for my amusement even though I have no horse in the race this time around. This and the MT forum win the award for “most entertaining.”

Horse race?

“I got the horse right here
The name is Paul Revere
And here’s a guy that says that the weather’s clear
Can do, can do, this guy says the horse can do
If he says the horse can do, can do, can do.”

^^^Oh geez. I wonder if anyone besides me knows how funny this is. :-)

Sit down, you’re rocking the boat, halflokum. :)

^ Halflokum- OMG! You nailed it! Gotta say, this is such a great group of parents and kids! Last year feels so long ago, and you guys will all be there soon. These questions are fantastic and your support for your theatre kids is so palpable. Enjoy this time with your kids. This journey will end soon and this very special time with them traipsing around the country will end quite suddenly and, while you’ll be so thrilled for their new adventure, you’ll miss all of this- staples and all :-)

Break a leg all you Guys n Dolls with upcoming auditions!
<see what="" i="" did="" there?=""></see>

HAHAHA - halflokum! See, it isn’t just us! alwaysamom and austinmt just join right into the party!

Love me some theatre people!

Keep going guys - you will get through this, especially if you can keep your sense of humor!

You guys are all a piece of work. The good kind :)

^^And before you go there Marbleheader:

What a piece of work is man
How noble in reason
How infinite in faculties
In form and moving
How express and admirable
In action how like an angel
In apprehension how like a god
The beauty of the world
The paragon of animals

(and no, that did not just jump in to my head. I had to “bing it” after I posted knowing that for sure, you’d be on it if I didn’t. I fully surrender to your superiority in this game.)
