Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

Haha Actingdad I know they have had a cold year there this year. In general I think it is much warmer there though. And actually D doesn’t care about that at all. She loved the program and the faculty at UNCSA and would still be interested if it was in Siberia.

It is generally warmer dramamom0804. Just found the comment funny about escaping the snow given they’ve just been snowed out the past couple of days. My daughter never cared much aboud weather, big school/small school, rural/city. I think if she could have built a perfect program she’d have liked being more “in” a city like CMU is in Pittsburgh and she thinks it woud be nice to part of a bit bigger school where there are some connections other than arts disciplines at UNCSA but those were all very minor points to her compared to being in the program that felt right.

Love the Fighting Pickle!

The CMU call process made a lot of sense before the Internet, but nowadays, as soon as the first person gets a call, practically the whole virtual community goes on red alert. In our case, last year I phoned my son’s acting teacher about unrelated matters, and he immediately said breathlessly “Do you have news?” Well, we didn’t, but one of his OTHER students had just received “the call” – you can imagine how that conversation ruined the weekend! My son never got called by CMU and in due course the rejection letter came.

On the bright side, my son had two “top choices” and was admitted to the other. It all worked out.

I’m glad and not glad at the same time that they work hard to make sure every kid has a good audition experience at CMU. On the one hand, my S confidence was super boosted, but so were his hopes.
On the bright side, he got an email from PACE yesterday encouraging him to get his application finished before the deadline! So glad it wasn’t me nagging him about it! That seems like a good sign.

It actually bothers me tremendously that they are so positive at the CMU auditions. My S walked alway thinking he has a real shot, and I don’t have the heart to tell him that they give positive feedback to just about everyone.

Rat Bastards! (just kidding)

confession: I can’t help but check the “admittance by name” board to see not only the great news for kiddos but if anyone has gotten in from any of the schools my son applied to! #:-S

I have kept meticulous records (or so I thought) of SAT scores, fees, transcripts, etc…making sure they showed up to each school (13 of them) on time. Just received an email today from Cal State Pomona that her SAT scores did not arrive by the Jan 31st deadline and they are pulling her admissions. No warning, nothing….guess her only California safety is off the table. My baby is going to the east coast for sure now waaaaaaaaaaa :((

bisouu…I would call them…tell them that it is a mistake. They may assume that she didn’t intend to send them, thus didn’t intend to keep her application active. I bet they will work with you.

Nope…tried that already…they said our only recourse is to go to the appeals board…My California tax dollar is being well spent…

Oh no, bisouu! That sucks! I’m so afraid that’s going to happen to us. We’ve got about 18 schools in the hopper so it is ridiculous keeping things straight at times.

Sorry bisouu!

So sorry Bisouu!!!

Bisouu, that absolutely stinks. It is good, though, that she has other acceptances in the bag.

Aw, bissou, that is awful. Never fear: we will take care of her on our coast!

So sorry Bisouu that is too bad!
Did you mention when you called that you are a well-respected poster on CC and they better find her SAT scores pronto or you will diss Cal State Pomona up and down the boards and they can expect their admissions to plummet?
oh wait did I say that?

Well, it is a perfect time to buy snow boots for your D, bisouu! Lots of end-of-winter sales (not that it feels like the end of winter yet - jeesh!).

Wow, that stinks. Some schools are so much more bureaucratic than others. But we will definitely be happy to take her here on the East Coast? :-)

Agreed, that stinks and is dumb. I know you’ve mentioned in other threads she has good stats too so why would they toss an applicant who is strong both academically and in acting? makes no sense. and I hear your mom’s heart about her heading to the opposite coast :frowning: i would appeal to the board. She took the SAT timely. there was just some mixup about it not getting to them.

I asked my D if she wanted me to pursue this for her and she said “no”…it’s a sign she said that I belong on the east coast!" The school has record of her SAT scores and transcripts but the “official” one from the board never arrived. I would think they would have alerted me that it was missing. Anyway, just a bit of a surprise and I agree @cti987 you would think they would love to have her as a student. But state schools are over crowded and they don’t have a shortage of people trying to get in.
