Sharing, Venting, Supporting Class of 2018

Haha, UVAHoo87, that is too funny about the snow days. Thanks for the heads up about UNCSA. Glad your S is having a great experience there!

The other thing that’s hard for many people is the second waiting period–while you are waiting to learn about finances.

With my D, we couldn’t decide until late April, because we were waiting for Northwestern’s financial offer to come in; these don’t get processed at the same time as the offer itself. Thankfully, the offer was generous and made it possible for her to go. This whole process is so nerve-wracking!

That final point is important, Connections, and is one reason why waiting to visit schools till after acceptances can be problematic; you may be admitted but still not know if you can attend, pending that FA offer.

congrats to your S on the Scottish college - how on earth will he decide?!

Thank you, bardsmom! SO very grateful he is in the position of having to decide, I’ll tell you! Money will be a factor as well for us.

D just received a regular-mail letter from Ithaca College - accepted to their BA-Theatre Studies, with a President’s Scholarship! She was really surprised, because she thought her interview (which was a phone interview) was terrible: the interviewer was really gruff and seemed in a bad mood! Just goes to show - you just can’t second-guess yourself until you get your actual decision!

Mostly, I’m just so very relieved because she already has some really, really good choices, along with some excellent merit scholarships. Much more waiting on admissions decisions - but so much easier knowing she has already been accepted to several schools that she would LOVE to attend!

What fabulous news! Huge congrats, mountainhiker!!!

D just received an email from Montclair telling her to schedule her audition! UGH anyone else have this problem?

Son received an e-mail like that right before Unifieds, but not after. Hope you have good news soon!

You should call them. That would worry me, too.

Class of 2018 UNCSA Film…Interviews are over…now what? Do they notify you by email, text or snail mail? Has anyone heard ANYTHING??

My D did a walk-in at Chicago Unifieds with Montclair and received an e-mail 2 days ago telling her to schedule her audition. I think this is due to her application for the school being reviewed.

Bisouu, did your D do a walk-in for Montclair?

No it was a scheduled audition…she had been admitted in early November academically. I called the school and they said it was a mass email that was sent and not to worry. But of course I am still worrying.

I would be too. I’m fretting every little detail at this point. I am looking very forward to April.

filmwoes – this the theater/drama forum. You should post your question in the film forum.

Anyone else get the CC app to work again since the new format took affect? for iphone? I have downloaded it several times and still nothing. I found the app much easier to use on my phone than the web page.

Mine doesn’t work.

I used to get email notifications when a thread I had bookmarked had a new post…that isn’t happening anymore either.

DD got into top choice UCF and I’m not as thrilled as she is. For one, the communication with admissions and theatre dept. has been virtually nonexistent. D called, sent many emails that were never answered. I know they have 60k students but I feel like it’s common courtesy to answer a prospective student’s emails, specifically questions on her major. I can’t believe the theatre rep has not responded to her after weeks of calls and emails. My poor DD had so much anxiety thinking she did something wrong, even though she’s gotten into 5 out of 7 schools she applied to so far. We’re waiting on Fordham and Emerson, which are reaches.

I’m feeling like she’ll be lost at a huge campus like UCF but I think the decision has been made in her mind now that she knows she’s been accepted. Now going up to Hofstra for Admitted Students Day this weekend seems like a waste of time and $$ but I know it’s a necessary evil.

does she know any other kids at UCF? i ask because you’ll have first hand info on whether the kids get lost in the shuffle. mine is going to a huge school too but if he majors in theatre, i don’t think he’ll get lost in the shuffle since the theatre dept is not huge. and i found my niches at a large state school, mostly in a dorm. i was somewhat isolated once I moved off campus though. from my own experience, most of my friends found their niches at my alma mater and have great college memories. for those who did not, it was a rough going. finding a niche is just finding some other kids who you have common interests with. I’d be concerned about no contact from the theatre dept either.

We got an email a couple days ago from Boston University regarding financial aid that said all freshmen
admission decisions will be released on March 22. Sounds like it applies to acting applicants too since it says all. Any other BU candidates get this too?
