Sharp or Monroe?

Finally committed to Tulane! I am so thrilled and honored that I will be joining the class of 2019 next year. Couldn’t be more excited to experience the big easy, take classes, meet new people, go to football games and find out everything that Tulane has to offer.

I put down my deposit the other week, and it got me thinking about what dorm I would like to choose for next year (You have two options, obviously #1 is the dorm you want to be in the most). I’ve been at a boarding school on the West Coast for the last 4 years, so luckily I am accustom to the life inside a dorm. I’m a pretty serious student, but I also like an active atmosphere where people are having fun. I also don’t mind kids being in my room and although work will be commonplace throughout the academic week, I also look forward to going out and having a fun time with my classmates.

So, I’ve narrowed it down to Sharp or Monroe. I know a little about each dorm, but I was wondering if someone could go into detail about the small things like size, quality of rooms, laundry services ETC. I think that Monroe is cool in the fact that it is pretty tall, giving the students a great view of Tulane’s campus along with the city. However, do students mind taking the elevator to their rooms? What about the location of both dorms?

Thanks

The dorms are right next to each other, so location isn’t really an issue. If you get an upper floor room in Monroe, the view is nice. But you might be on the third floor. Certainly anyone that knows differently should say so, but as far as I know the differences in the rooms and any other meaningful aspect involved is negligible. I think the beds in Sharp are a little longer? When I was there the dorms were considered equivalent and I don’t think that has really changed. Of course if you are on an upper floor of Monroe and the elevators go out of service, that is a pain. It doesn’t happen a lot, but it does happen.

DD thought the downstairs communal area at Sharp was nicer than Monroe. But the odds of a good view are better at Monroe.

Actually the beds in Monroe are Twin XL and in Sharp are standard twin with a built-in on the wall and no door on the closet (many install a shower curtain or standard curtain). The beds in Monroe can be set to varying heights, in Sharp, I believe, they are not adjustable because of the built in. Both laundries are on the first floor. My D is very happy in Monroe and her best friend equally happy in Sharp. Don’t fret over it, they are very similar and you will be fine in either. Congrats, I hope you love Tulane as much as we do!

Ah, thanks @DebmomNY‌. I had them reversed in my failing memory.

Thank you! Yeah exactly, i’ve heard great things about both halls, so I don’t think I could go wrong. Roll Wave.
