Rec'd a mailing with a number of package deals. Good idea or rip off?

Yeah, I’m in the same position… you can definitely find XL sheets and comforters elsewhere. I mean, I think (in my relatively uninformed opinion) that they’re a pretty decent deal, but being a female, don’t really like any of the designs. I’m definitely going to look around first.

My daughter took advantage of Bed, Bath, and Beyond. She ordered what she wanted locally (Pasadena, CA) and it was all ready for pick up in Utica when we arrived to take her to campus. Pretty easy. We also visited Staples and a lot of of stores nearby (in Utica, I mean) for essentials like a lamp, rug, etc. Kind of fun for an hour or two. Could do the same thing in Syracuse. Hamilton has some stores where you could pick up things, but it will be a much more limited selection. The various services are for those who don’t want to take the extra time and effort, but they’re useful services. Depends on how picky you are and how much time and effort you want to put into this. Some people couldnt’ care less about sheets and towels (me included!).

kkehrel,

For the absence of doubt, I think it is worth establishing what you mean by managing a program at Colgate (and/or other colleges and universities). You have given the impression that you are a Colgate employee when a directory check at its website shows that you are not.

Therefore, please clarify what commercial firm you represent. Given that you have solicited questions from the readership of this site, I think it’s important that it be transparent limited to what you do for a living.

Thank you.

It was clear to me from Kate’s post that she was representing the linen company, and not an employee of Colgate. I was impressed that she was proactive in her comments about the products. She is the kind of employee that a lot of companies would like to have representing them!

While I appreciate the input from anyone, I was really looking for comments from students and parents when I posted this originally.

Thanks!

You can buy extra long sheets at your local Bed Bath & Beyond or other similar store; I would not use this service.

I bought the package deal from the catalog and they were fine. Not very thrilling, but they lasted all four years with no issues. I’ll probably be taking them to grad school next year too!

I purchased some nice ones recently at Linen’s N Things.

You need extra long sheets. would regular blankets and comforters work?
