I just received an email today (2/16/18) that I was selected for the Stamps Scholarship as a semi-finalist. It seems that this, along with the Shipman Scholarship, is automatically evaluated and sent to your email if they are considering you. The Shipman Scholarship doesn’t give a date as to when they will release their decisions for semi-finalists, and their website seems to be a work-in-progress. Last year someone claimed to have received the email on February 10th, while the year prior to last was apparently the 26th.
Has anyone received either of these emails, or know when we can expect the Shipman one?
I think the Shipman interview is in early to mid March, so the candidates should be notified before that. Only 40-45 candidates are invited to compete and only them would know. There are not many info in this forum as it is not likely one of the 40-45 is member in this forum.
If I may ask what kind of questions are asked. Is it similar to college interviews or project specific. I would like to understand this a little more. Is it just about your goals in life etc?
This is the first year that Stamps has done semi-finalists and interviews. In previous years, all of those who were selected automatically got the scholarship. So, nobody really knows what it will be like.
@Trishka
I cannot seem to find any info on how many semifinalists were selected or when exactly we will be notified of the finalists (presumably during the weekend on campus in late March). Its a normal interview.
Looking further into the email, a finalist group will be notified a week from today, on the 28th of February of who qualifies to go to the weekend on campus in late March. Seems that recipients of the award will be notified sometime after that.
From my official email,
“If you are selected as a finalist, you will be notified by Wednesday, February 28. There is nothing more you need to submit beyond the completion of the interview process. Your interview submission also confirms that you are available to attend the Stamps Scholars Weekend on the U-M Ann Arbor campus March 23-25, 2018. Upon selection as a finalist, we will contact you with details to help arrange your travel and lodging accommodations”
It appears so, I was thinking that finalist meant the final round of the process. We should know by a week from today then!
@Sacreul That’s what I thought for awhile too. I hope you’re wrong only because that betters out chances. One idea is that the email also says “We would like to invite you to submit the final credential for consideration for one of 18 finalist awards.” This implies that there are 18 finalist spots, equal to the number of Stamps recipients. Took my interview today. Have you done yours yet?
@Collegethrows124 That’s what I was saying, those selected for the weekend are the recipients as far as I can tell. I completed mine yesterday and really enjoyed it.
does anyone know if people who didn’t make it to the finalist round will also get an email? Or are only finalist emailed and people who don’t make it just find out when they don’t get an email by the end of the day? I’m a stamps semifinalist and I’m super anxious lol.
