Shooting at Univ. Alabama Huntsville (merged thread folds in Parents Cafe comments)

JustAMom: “Why would we expect someone who has no scruples committing murder to have any guilt about bogus listing of kids’ names as co-authors?”

Good point! To those of us in research, bogus coauthorship is only one or two steps removed from mass murder, though…

First you have to have the gun loaded and cocked (for a pump shotgun that means the forearm in the forward position), the safety must be off, then you have to put your finger on the trigger (which should never be done until about ready to shoot), and then the trigger must be pulled. And of course, to hit someone with the shot, the gun has to be pointed directly at them. Keep in mind that the pattern (i.e. the spread of the shot) is quite small for most shotguns at the short distance one would typically encounter in a home so the gun would need to be pointed directly at the person.

In other words - it’s very difficult to ‘accidentally’ shoot a person with a pump shotgun unless someone purposely ignored every but of common sense they might have even if unfamiliar with guns (i.e. loaded it, cocked it, put the safety off if it was on, put the finger on the trigger, pointed it at the person, then pulled the trigger).

Did someone say that there will be a continual of weird info coming out about this?

[Amy Bishop was charged with assault in 2002 IHOP dispute - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe](http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2010/02/amy_bishop_was.html)

LOL. Seriously, it seems like some people are more upset about that issue!

Yeah, I’ve heard of this phenomena in clinical research. Bogus coauthorship is more common in that field, and doctors are the ultimate resume’ padders. From what I remember, if some routine clinical test is done for a paper, then everyone in the lab gets on the paper plus a bunch of doctors if they are affiliated somehow with the clinical lab. I’m a little hazy on how they actually do this. Because of this, some journals for clinical research now require you to justify what each author’s contribution was.

However, journals for pure science don’t require any statement of each author’s contribution. Most often it doesn’t take that much manpower, relatively speaking, to produce a publication. The one exception that I can think of would be high-energy physics.

*In March, 2002, Bishop walked into an International House of Pancakes in Peabody with her family, asked for a booster seat for one of her children, and learned the last seat had gone to another mother.

Bishop, according to a police report, strode over to the other woman, demanded the seat and launched into a profanity-laced rant.

When the woman would not give the seat up, Bishop punched her in the head, all the while yelling “I am Dr. Amy Bishop.”

Bishop received probation and prosecutors recommended that she be sent to anger management classes, though it is unclear from court documents whether a judge ever sent her there.

The woman, identified in court documents as Michelle Gjika, declined to comment, saying only “It’s not something I want to relive.”*

OMG…“I’m Amy Bishop!” What? We don’t have a caste system here. I wonder how she squares that thought process with her socialist ideals? Bizarre woman!

It’s a good thing she didn’t have her gun then; she might have shot the baby in the booster seat!

ttparent: OMG How many more such incidents are out there!!!

This woman is a walking cluster bomb.

I think the answer to “I am Dr. Amy Bishop” should have been “and I am the Pope.”

The wonder is that Bishop went for so long without being restrained.

God. That’s truly bizarre. I’m afraid that in the same situation, I probably would have punched her right back.

When the woman would not give the seat up, Bishop punched her in the head, all the while yelling “I am Dr. Amy Bishop.”

So much for Papa Anderson’s claim that he never saw any indication of aggressive abnormality in his wife’s behavior.

Or called DSS.

The Norfolk County District Attorney has found and released the missing Braintree police report describing the 1986 incident in which Amy Bishop killed her teenage brother.

The DA concludes that, “The analysis of the newly received documents, as well as the previously released March 30, 1987 State Police report indicate that probable cause existed at that time to place Amy Bishop under arrest charged with:
Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Chap. 265 Sec. 15B
Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, Chap. 269 Sec. 10, 12D
Unlawful possession of ammunition, Chap. 269 Ch. 10 (h)”

However, “The statute of limitations has run on all of those charges.”

See, this is why I stay out of IHOP.

As if that would be bad somehow.

The Waffle House isn’t much better. The options for a sane person are pretty much Bob Evans or your own kitchen.

I like the pancakes at IHOP but I prefer the ones that my wife cooks up.

Good job by the DA on finding that report. I’m surprised that they didn’t also add:

Murder, attempted robbery, criminal threatening, and attempted carjacking.

Well, they’ve found the missing records, and, as I suspected would be the case, it appears that the statute of limitations has expired on any possible charges arising from the 1986 events:

Here is the statement from the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office:

[Prosecutor says Amy Bishop could have been charged in 1986 - Local News Updates - The Boston Globe](http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2010/02/prosecutor_says.html)

I wonder are there incidents like this in Alabama? Or maybe when she finally got a tenure track position, her anger level subsided, until a few days ago.

Alabama is a concealed-carry state, which is a good deterrent against harassing people for no good reason in public.

Now the IHOP?

You know, I have things I am supposed to be getting accomplished. Would all of you quit causing me to drop everything and check out the latest on this bizarre story?

RE:IHOP. I called it. I said at around 450 posts that this would be going on for a long time as more weird stuff would come out. And the IHOP incident is exactly what I meant. There are even more IHOP like incidents out there as well. Just watch and see. This is so bizarre. Someone remind me. Where is Peabody? MASS? Was she at Huntsville yet? If not, was this info available to those who made the decision to hire her? If she was there already, was this info made available to the U? This women has anger management issues. The brother, the ice cream truck, IHOP. She was a pressure cooker ready to blow. This is tragic, especially when you learn that these events just keep coming forward. GET THOSE KIDS OUT OF THAT HOME IMMEDIATELY. This behavior of mom’s was no secret. And DAD might be stupid or brainwashed, or HE MIGHT BE AS SICK AS SHE IS to have let this go on. Those children are in danger. Maybe not physically, but they need to be removed from the home until more is learned.

Set a picture of Amy Bishop as your screen saver.
