Is there a Bed, Bath and Beyond-type store near McGill? We're hoping to purchase linens, spare lamp, rug, etc. once S moves in.

How about an Office Max, Staples??

I'm not sure this is what you mean, but since you're in canada, how about a french-english dictionary (assuming you don't speak french)

try using the google maps or mapquest for the location info

We like the Canadian Tire store in the Place Alexis Nihon three metro stops away at the Atwater stop.. They have all dorm stuff at good prices, much better than downtown boutiques. A description:

Place Alexis Hihon, located Downtown West near Atwater, is mainly patronized by local apartment dwellers but is a great shopping centre and a gold mine for those looking for necessities. Canadian Tire offers everything that has to do with hardware or hardware related. Pharmaprix is a large pharmacy with a huge selection of personal items. IGA is a competing grocery store offering competitive prices to other grocers. There are numerous amounts of other stores along with a few international chains, a food court and a multi screen cinema.

There are Staples, known as the Bureau en Gros.

Students all know about the wonderful Dollarama chain- where everything is a dollar and you will find a great selection. The closest to McGill is in the Place Montreal Trust, lower level.

Your student will get a very helpful booklet from the Student Association listing all the cheapest places to eat, drink, shop, see movies, etc. on Montreal. I thought I knew the City, but the booklet really opened my eyes.

Thanks, McGilldad! That's a huge help.
