Should appeal? (UCLA Econ)

Hi, friend of mine got rejected from UCLA econ

with 3.7 gpa (i guess), AGS vice-president, volunteered more than 120 hours I think,

and math tutor for like 2 semesters.

She's an international student, and I thought that she would get in with these specs, and however UCLA rejected her. -.-;

All pre-req done(pre-req for Cal also done.) but she got C in her last accounting class(5units)(Is this critical?).

She got into all of UC's except Cal(waiting) and UCLA (USC waiting).

How's chance of Haas for her?

She is so mad atm, and not planning to appeal. Should she?

I don’t know about Haas, but for sure she should appeal UCLA…Good luck

Hey, any1 knew the date for USC decision out?

she should appeal…

I never understood where this unfounded anger comes from when people are rejected, and because they are angry they won’t try to appeal, where did all the perseverance go in the world?

so what if she had a 3.7 and all that stuff, so did everyone else pretty much. How was the essay?

SHe can appeal if she has something new to present. You can not appeal just because you think you should get accepted.

Keep in mind that a TON of students are applying and all are well qualified for the most part.

socal i believe they have until june 1st, but in the usc thread some girl has already received her package in the mail ?

According to her saying, UCLA admin said that her grades was the huge factor for determination, which means her C in accounting class rejected her?

I think her essay was pretty decent since Ive heard that many of her American friends double-checked her essays.

Ima go tell her to appeal anyways. It’s better than to sit down and do nothing. >_<

She could appeal, but you should know that lots of 3.8+ students get rejected just because they’re international.
BOTH of my friend who have 4.0 gpa with both IGETC and Pre-req done got rejected from UCLA econ. The number of international students they accept is EXTREMELY limited, just like out-of-state student. And we’re talking about Econ here, one of the most impacted major. Her spec should have been near perfection.

Being an international and having a 3.7 (less than admitted average from past couple of years) hurts a lot. She does have some nice ECs, but I don’t think an appeal will change anything tbh. Haas is unfortunately a long shot too, but you never know.

The number of international students they accept is EXTREMELY limited??? look at the percentages of admitted studends international vs. CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE TRANSFERS. It’s slightly higher. and if you end up at ucla, you’re going to realize quickly how many people are not from the u.s.

International Student
Less than 4.0 GPA
C in her last accounting class

I’m sorry, but Haas is an extreme stretch with these.

As for the UCLA rejection. I’d say the C in her recently taken Pre Req and the fact that she has much less priority was the reason. Tell her to appeal if she has significant new information she can provide. Also, tell her she needs good letters of rec.
