Should/Could I bring video games to college?

I have an Xbox 360 and a Wii and I am considering bringing one of these systems with me in spring. Are video games allowed on campus, and should I worry about roommates hogging it or stealing it?

I have both too. I pretty sure that they are allowed on the campuses. I decided not to bring it just because its another distraction that I’m not going to need.

Yeah i keep hearing that video games are distracting and that people aren’t bringing them…

I mean what else are you going to do when you’re bored?

I’m still debating if I should bring mine or not…

If you don’t bring video games, you will probably have to spend your free time socializing with those wretched “human beings.” throws up in mouth

Consider that before you make the biggest mistake of your life.

I mean you don’t have to take it to the extreme Sitihis. There are people who do both…

I don’t know about time in college but in High School I played Video Games when there was nothing else to do on a weekday and on the weekends I would go out with friends and whatnot…

If you can handle having them without being too distracted from schoolwork, then sure. They’re a good way to socialize. Theft shouldn’t be an issue if you lock your room/your roommates aren’t kleptomaniacs.

I was joking, albeit in a very complicated way.

I’m one of those kids who has spells when I use the PS3 a lot and then periods when I never play. I’ve probably played three times in the last 3 months so I’m not bringing it. Anytime I get the urge I can just remind myself that I am surrounded by thousands of cool guys and hot chicks. Once in a lifetime chance and I can’t waste it on PS3.

I got my PS3 a year and a half ago, and I think it’s way too expensive to use for such a short time. I plan on bringing it in order to socialize, too; I hear that leaving your door open while playing video games attracts a crowd, so I’m bringing my multiplayer games. I also use it for watching blu-ray and DVDs, which is a fun thing to do with friends. I always got my work done in high school no problem, even with the presence of video games, so I don’t think I’ll be too distracted in college.

As for the theft worry, just keep your door locked all the time, and ask your roommate to do so, too.

Leave the PS3 on the back burner and get into PC gaming. Having a game console is going to signal to females that you aren’t boyfriend/hookup material, and consoles are pretty much inferior to PC these days.

I have a sweet rig and an xbox 360, but I’m bringing neither. I don’t see how I can have time to play them. There’s always vacation and the summer.

i bring my ps2/DS/PSP with me and i haven’t had any trouble with it. And yes, you WILL have time.

^between class, homework, job, party, socializing, eating, and catching up on the news…when will I have time to play lost planet 2? lol.

lol of course they are allowed on campus.

Might as well bring it, people often socialize by playing sports games and music games. If you’re the only one (or one of a few) in your hall with a console, and you have some social games, everyone will wanna play with you :P

I love video games (mainly Nintendo and computer). I brought my Wii and we had Brawl parties, and my roommate and I would play as well.

I did not bring it for socializing. I actually prefer playing video games alone, because I like RPGs/platformers the most. For that reason, I don’t have any sports games/music games/dance games (except on my N64, which I left at home so my family could play).

Im definitely not bringing my 360 … Despite me not playing it as often as I would like, it’s college. This is one of the few times in our lives where we’ll be surrounded by our peers in this unique type of environment where there’s an endless amount of things to do and an endless assortment of personalities and people from all sorts of backgrounds . I find it essentially impossible to get bored, especially with the quantity and quality of work expected out of us. To bring videogames would totally distract us from what we were sent to college for in the first place … To educate ourselves, grow socially and network.

If you’re really that serious about games, stick to your laptop games online… I’m sure the girls in general would find that totally undateable btw. Just my .02

^ You’re really overestimating college.

I’m not seeing the dichotomy between associating with people and playing video games. Say it’s Monday afternoon. Most people are in class. You play video games for an hour. And somehow now you’re “undateable,” “wasting time,” “not socializing,” etc.? Many people I know seem to manage talking for hours with others, partying, and so forth, yet still finding the time to play video games.

And justadream, it really bothers me that you feel qualified to tell everyone why they did or what reason they should have had for attending college. Some people go to get a marketable degree. There’s honestly nothing wrong with that. For some people, the social growth comes even with the allegedly poisonous presence of video games. I am that way. Some people go to network, to develop religiously, to party, to escape their parents, etc.

The presumptuousness of CC posters seems to have no limit.

I don’t feel qualified to tell people anything about what their intentions should be … That’s why I added “my .02.” To each his own though; do you. I’m just speaking on how I envision college life, which might not be necessarily true for any CC poster, or in general for that matter. But what do I know … I’m just a freshman.

Ideally though, I would guess that people would want to optimize their college experiences and suck it in for all of the money you gush out just to attend … Apparently not. Video games will always be there … College life won’t.

Maybe I’m taking it a little too seriously lol but aren’t I entitled to?

ummm why not bring them? its a great way to socialize. plus you get introduced to games you otherwise might not have even heard of or played before (sad however that no one likes to play me in MvC2 at my school)
