You generalized your own intent and applied it to everyone. So in no way can you argue that you did not. As a result, the “2 cents” refers to your belief that everyone should go to college for X, not that you personally are going to college for X.

Here it is again. You are telling everyone how to get the most out of their college lives. For some people, optimizing their college experiences involves playing video games.

Please let it drop and just think about what other people are looking to get out of college. Not everyone categorizes “getting the most out of college” in the same way you do.

Bring it. I’m bringing my PS3. I’ll go out during the second half of the week. but on like Monday there’s not much going on, especially during the day.

I’m not bringing my xbox 360, but I plan on playing a few hours of computer games a week. I see no problem with it. I won’t let it get in the way of my studies or social life…I think of them at the same level I think of internet browsing [like CC].

The fact that I haven’t been to college yet and that I’m thinking like that should be somewhat encouraging lol

but like I said, what do I know? I’m just a freshman… With my mind open to everything . While at SU, I did see people playing some smash bros so I guess as long as it doesn’t interfere with me doing what I have to do, I’m cool with it. But I personally won’t bring my 360 because I think it would be smart for me not to have a social dorm during my first quarter.

I agree with DC. You have to set up rules for yourself.

I used to be homeschooled it was really hard to get through some days when i just wanted to go play. However i would set myself a goal. If i could do this many assignments i could play this evening. So on so forth.

Besides what are you going to do when classes are canceled due to bad weather and everyone is stuck in their dorms?

Now excuse me while i go back to playing Dragonquest 8 :D

Plenty of social guys bring their systems and have madden and FIFA tournaments. There’s down time at school. We have played some Mario party and Rock band during lowkey nighs. If you are playing multi player games it can be a means to socialize. You’ll find yourself with and hour or two to kill and If you enjoy playing video games, bring it. If you don’t use it you can take it home.

I was just about to say this. I know absolutely nothing about video game systems (my last one was the SNES, totally legit), but my friends and I often play video games when we’re hanging out. Alcohol optional, but highly recommended.

I would tell you to take them if you like, my roomates and I would play a game of madden or nhl before going out or after a long night of work. it was good fun and we only played occasionally.

I’m sort of confused by this thread – does no one here play videos games without other people? I thought this was the norm, but this thread seems to suggest I’m in the tiny minority.

I do usually. I mean when I was at school I didn’t have a console, so I didn’t play games by myself. But now at home I usually play by myself unless I have friends over. I play online as well, but that doesn’t really count.

I would advise my student to leave it home …for the first semester, anyway…to become acclimated to campus life, figure out his or her workload, make the opportunity to get involved in group activities and make friends. If everything (academic/social) has fallen into place by mid-year… then bring it back to campus with you after XMas…for 2nd semester.
