So I’m a high school junior, and my dad is a professor of biology at a university in China. Over the winter break of my sophomore year, I visited my dad in China to help out with his research, and he ended up putting my name as a co-author on a research paper he wrote.
Now I’m conflicted: I did help a bit at the lab, but it was more so tinkering around with the equipment, and editing the paper for English errors. I’ve never put the paper I “co-authored” on my resume, but after I got waitlisted on a moderately-competitive summer program Early Decision (Stanford Clinical Summer Institute), I don’t know if the result would be different if I did include it.
I don’t feel that it’s right to put it on my resume because I feel I didn’t contribute enough to deserve so (and cuz it’s my own dad who authored it) but at this point I’m more concerned with practical results.
If I will be applying to summer research programs (like SIMR, UCD YSP, etc.), should I include the “co-authored” paper in my resume?
