I recently just got rejected from UF and I was wondering if I should take the time to appeal? This was my top choice school.

Here a few highlights of my resume:
- SAT: 1740 (Not amazing, but I feel everything else should outweigh this)
- GPA: 4.48
- I held many leadership positions, joined clubs, and was actively involved in the community.
- My essay was praised by several teachers and students at my school who reviewed it.
- 23/27 classes I've taken in high school were AP or AICE, the rest were honors, and I maintained A's and B's in all of these classes (Show's that I challenged myself)
- I'm ranked 104/822 students
- One of my family members graduated from there, while another one currently goes there

I was completely set on majoring in engineering at UF, but now with denied admission my next option is FSU, which doesn't really have an engineering program. I know UCF is better for that but I feel it doesn't have the same prestigious reputation as FSU. So I may have to change my major.

It also doesn't make sense how other students at my school were accepted who didn't take nearly as many AP/AICE classes, weren't ranked as high, and had lower test scores. It makes me feel like I took all those hard classes for nothing. But I guess they're just random with decisions. I know I'm ranting here, but it irks me.

The average was 1960. I’m just genuinely not a good test taker, but that shouldn’t reflect my academic intelligence. I would think 4 years of rigorous classes rather than a 4 hour test would be more heavily weighted towards the decision.

UF does care more about your GPA and class Rigor than test scores, however UF holistic admissions is 50% GPA(most important)/Class Rigor/Test scores and 50% ECs/Leadership/Essay (that essay counts…). It makes it very hard to detemrine why someone didn’t (or did) get accepted by UF.

Only appeal if you some new information that you think UF didn’t know that should be taken into account.

If you want to be an engineer, be an engineer. Don’t let prestige or reputation be the single factor used in picking a school (especially for engineering). Pick one thats a good fit and supprts the majors you’re interested in. Pick the one that makes you happy. Perhaps that’s FSU, or perhaps that’s UCF. Whatever works for you and your family.
