My new and compelling information is *Finical situation. *. Its pretty bad and i am going to get a job as soon as senior year is over. What else can improve my chance at an appeal? Should i get a teacher rec? Should i mention competitiveness at school (i got a lot of friends who got into top tier schools)? Any other information? help me out guys....

The question isn't whether you had a bad financial situation or not (UCLA would have admitted you with need-based financial aid and/or work-study in that case), but whether they affected your grades and overall performance. Since you didn't work your job during high school, it's not relevant to your chances of admission.

Sorry to double post
However i need advice the deadline for appealing is approaching.

PLz need some advice from the people on these forums...

edit: Yes my finical situation affect my grades my parents didnt let me work b/c they wanted me to focus on my grades. However is this enough compelling new information?

I agree with flopsy on that. Other people go through harsh times and still manage to do great in school. But what do I know about who you are, and what you've been through?

You should try it anyway, just so that you won't have the "what if" thought in your head.

OR should i just go to UCI?

Why not go to a CC since you have a Finical situation? That way you can work part-time and go to school while you still get financial aid. Transfering from a CC to UCLA is easier than UCI to UCLA, that's if you really want to come to UCLA.

Good points Grasspuppet i guess i am going to give the appeal a shot however do u suggest i don't write on Finical Situation in my letter. Then what? And UCI would be fine financially b/c they gave me quite a lot of aid and i would be fine for UCI finical wise.

Anyway suppose i do appeal what do i write in my letter?

i dont know....you had a 'financial situation', but you did not work since your parents didnt let you. so how would that have negatively impacted your grades and such? if anything your grades should be better since you didnt have to spend time working.

if your family had financial problems and you had to work nearly full time to help your family out and as a result your grades suffered, then i could see how that could be a basis for appeal if that wasn't mentioned in your initial application/essays.

it doesnt hurt to try, but personally i dont see that as being very compelling for an admissions appeal. sounds more like something you would write to appeal for more financial aid.

Ok thx guys i dont think i am going to appeal b/c i cant come up w/ a convincing new information. But if anybody has successful appeal stories plz share.

im appealing based on the fact that my application was missing some vital info in my extracurricular areas. the only reason im bothering is because it is a lot (a combined 23 years of sports that weren't put on my application, even though they took place before i filled out the application) i had 10 years of baseball, 7 years of golf, and 6 years of soccer that didnt get mentioned, so i hope they take my appeal into consideration.
