should i bother as a transfer? for NYU stern, UR, or Georgetown?

Hi everyone,

Is it possible you could tell me if I have a chance I could get into NYU Stern, U Richmond, and Georgetown as a transfer? I am worried I am wasting my time. I am a freshman majoring in Finance. I go to American University in DC.

My first semester ended and my GPA is a 3.87 (3 A’s and 2 A-'s) . is it possible you could see if i have a chance?

I have a recommendation from my business professor, who I am close to. I can ask my writing professor also.
My extra curricular activities include:
-high school investment club founder and president

  • treasurer of student government for 2 years
  • Financial Management Association at the university
  • soon to be summer intern at the department of treasury
  • I am planning on starting my own investment club at the University also next semester
  • took an entrepreneurship course as a junior in high school at the University of Maryland
  • treasurer of UNICEF club
  • worked in retail for 4 years as a technology specialist
  • getting an on-campus job next semester
  • Bloomberg Certified
  • top 1% portfolio in capitol hill challenge (virtual stock exchange game)

My high school stats were:
3.62GPA (UW) 4.25 (W)
SAT: 1820 (Math: 650, Reading: 610, Writing: 560).

AP Scores:
Macroecon: 5
English Lang: 3
Statistics: 3

I know NYU wants standardized tests, and my high school stats suck. which do you recommend will be better? Is there a way i can convince the admissions committee to look past these scores?
Do i have a chance to actually get in to these places?

I am frustrated with AU’s social environment and I feel like I do not belong there as a Business student. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you!

NYU Stern is ridiculously difficult to transfer into. Even perfect students (4.0 college GPA, high SATs) have trouble transferring in. It doesn’t hurt to try, but you can’t get a chance for it just because it’s so low for everyone.

@dehca2016 thank you so much for your response.

Do you think I have a chance for Georgetown Mcdonough school of business or Robins School of Business at U Richmond?

You definitely have a good shot at Robins. I’d say it’s on the fence for McDonough. Definitely apply to both.

Also, top 1% portfolio for SIFMA. Nice. I got 9th last year. I think it’ll definitely help us. Mind chancing me back?

@dehca2016 thank you so much! I will definitely apply. The SIFMA game was super hard because of the trades only being for closing day price, i remember stressing about that.

Also, yes of course what are your stats? and applying where?

I made a post about it! Please check my post history
