That’s reassuring, NinRash! Having just applied to four colleges for CE I was beginning to worry if I’d picked the right major.

Remember, we are all just random strangers on the internet. We are just as lost and confused as you are as we await decisions from schools!

fortyeightbits: “at the same time I feel that I’m not passionate enough about it like some people who learn coding from a young age are.”

A good number of the CSE department here didn’t even touch computers for anything besides word processing, gaming, and browsing the internet until they got to college. =) Don’t compare yourself to those people who have tinkered with computers for ages. For grad school, industry, and other paths, it’s not a race. There’s just a bar you need to meet (e.g. hiring bar for a company). We have students who take their first programming class as a junior or senior and go to top companies and universities or start their own company!

For what it’s worth, you can switch between CS and CE at UW really quickly. I was originally a CE student, but switched to CS about a year in. You can also take hardware classes as a CS student (mlidge can speak more about this) if you want to get that exposure.

I would honestly contact the advisors if you’re concerned about the international credits being treated differently. It would probably just depend on what’s actually in the course syllabus. Note that we do have a lot of transfer students in CSE, either from local community colleges or from universities/colleges around the world.

Some unofficial transcripts are out! Check the portal!

Did you get yours @charlesfries ?? I still need to wait for midnight

@charlesfries: How do you know that “most” unofficial transcripts are out? I doubt UW made an announcement since they don’t acknowledge that as a good indicator of acceptance.

@speedsolver we have been having a party of sorts on the official 2014 thread,… lol

Ooh… exciting!

Thanks speedsolver! It makes me feel better to hear that not everyone in CSE are super experienced in programming already. I’ve got a long wait to go since transfer decisions only come out in June, and am expecting a decision from UW-Madison soon. Assuming I’m accepted by both, I’m still not sure if it’s crazy to turn down UW for Udub, but I’ll think about what you said. :)

No problem! =) Let me know if you have any other questions!
