Should I Bring a Printer?

Hi,

I’ll be a freshman at a small liberal arts college and am wondering if it would be recommended to bring a printer. We can print in the library but it costs 20 cents per page.

Thank you!

In my school the library did charge us 20 cents per page but in the computer lab, we get ~10.00$ of credit for printing. I would check around the school to see if there’s an alternative option. If not, it shouldn’t hurt to bring one.

You can. In the long run it probably costs about as much as printing from the library, but is more convenient.

Absolutely bring a printer if you can.

You may want to check with the college - My son’s school allows them to print something like 250 pages per semester for free using their printers…Saves the ink, but you still have to go to one of the computer centers to do this. That said, he has not had to print very much at all because most classes accept electronic copies of things as well.

I’d say it depends on how often you’re really printing. Unless money is super tight, the more substantial issue is probably going to be the time difference between printing in your room and using the library - especially if you are going to be purchasing a printer specifically to bring to college. If you have to go to the library every time you need to print something, that will get annoying very quickly if you’re printing stuff for multiple classes daily (e.g. if you print out the slides for classes to take notes on them). If you basically are only printing out the occasional term paper to hand in then you might as well just use the library when needed.

Thank you so much for all your help! I think I’ll bring a printer since it seems more convenient.

A printer is probably the best optional item to bring to college. My roommate freshman year had one and it was a godsend.
