I am registered to take the SAT Reasoning test this coming Saturday, but I am wondering if I should cancel my registration, if it is not too late to do so. I currently have a 2250 on the SAT (800-CR 730-M 720-CR) and two 35s on the ACT (super-score: 36-English, 36-Math, 36-Science, 34-Reading), and wanted to try to get my SAT superscore above a 2300, so I registered for this upcoming test, which is my last opportunity to take the SAT (I’m applying for admission for fall of 2016). I’m applying to a few Ivies and schools of similar selectivity (UChicago, JHU, etc.) and want to be as competitive as possible, but I’m unsure if taking the test again would benefit me to any great extent. It’s not a lack of motivation to take the test dissuading me- I am more than happy to take it-but I am stuck wondering whether or not doing so would be worth it. I have an academic competition this Saturday as well that would conflict with my taking the test, and I am wondering where my time would be better spent. Right now I am leaning towards taking the test. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.
If it makes any difference, I am fairly confident that I can get an 800 on the Math, and 750+ on Writing if I write a strong enough essay.
I wouldn’t bother. 2250 will be viewed the same as 2300, and your ACT score alone would be more than enough for any school (you also run the risk that you won’t do as well).
It’s certainly not too late to cancel, but I’m not sure you’d get a full refund. You’d either get a partial refund or you can apply it towards another test on another date – might you want to take some Subject tests? Math 2 for example?
Thanks for responding! Yeah I was wondering how significant a difference 50 or so points would make, and I suppose it wouldn’t be such a great one. And I’ve already taken subject tests, but thanks!
I wouldn’t bother either. The academic competition is more worth your time.
Don’t take it. You already have fantastic ACT and SAT scores.
Enjoy your Saturday.
Your ACT score is perfect dude. Do something else with your Saturday!
Isn’t it too late to send scores anyways?
Many schools will take January SAT scores.
You already have a 35 ACT (36 for those few colleges that superscore), so I wouldn’t do any more testing!
An award from that academic competition would be worth far more.
Thanks to everyone for the input. I ended up going to the competition instead, and it looks like I might be moving on to regionals in a few subjects, so I think I made the right decision.
If you don’t turn up to the SAT, it means you get an automatic zero and it is not reported. And no, it would have been way too late to get any money back. And there is no need to retake at that level, esp with a 35 on the ACT. Why bother? You got 35 on the ACT. What would you dream of retaking the SAT with that ACT score?
For places that have score choice, just send in the ACTs.
