Should I cancel?

When I took the SAT today, I totally bombed the essay. I had an intro paragraph and two bodies since I ran out of time. Do you think it'd be a good idea to cancel if my essay will drastically impact my score?

as long as u wrote good stuff u should be fine. CB claims that they doint penalize u for no conclusion and i only used 2 examples in january and got a 12

Oh, okay, thank you MNOAAA12! I guess I'll just see how things pan out with regard to my score.

Question: Did you put a conclusion?

essay is counted for 24 points

You can get like 8 wrong and an essay of 12 will give you an 800....the readers read alot of ****ty essays from kids with no idea what they are doing. If you are on these boards, I assume you wrote those two paragraphs well...you don't have to finish the essay for a 12. You will probably lose like 4 RAW points....no big deal at all...just like getting 4 MC wrong considering that the writing curve is GENEROUS

I thought I did a good job on what I had on the essay, but I can only hope that I'll get at least an 8 or 9.

Easily...if you have less than 2 examples you won't get a 6 from any grader no matter how well it is written. It is all up to how well you think you wrote it.

So having two examples gives me a shot at a decent score, right?

RIGHT, plus read my post to grayfalcon today about "conclusions" and you'll fit it into perspective

no need to cancel due to an essay, even less so becauwe of a piece of it(the conclusion)

first time my S took it, he was totally blindsided, was trained for the AP US HIstory test to write for 45 minutes at a time. Since he was only a sophomore, we said, just waltz in there and try taking an SAT for a "baseline" so we know which kinds of colleges to look at together. And it'll be good practice. Plus other stuff happening then, so 0 study time for him that first test, taken soph year

his essay got a 6. Anything he write, he can style well but he barely got halfway through his own outlne when the end came. Maybe he penned one example, and just bgan the second so they could see there was a second thought.

he was mad at us, for good reason, about that "baseline" idea. Next two tests, he practiced and timed himself, plus all the kinds of stuff CC kids do...so much better

If you think that you did well on the rest of the test, do not retake it. The scoring of essays was not consistent last year. I have seen great essays get only above average scores and some average essays get great scores. I hope this helps. You may have done much better than you think!

If it gives you any comfort, most people I've talked to at the test center and here on CC did not get to write a conclusion paragraph. Mine was only a sentence, and I dont even think I completed it!

I wouldn't cancel, there's no point. If you really bombed it, you can retake it and colleges will never see these scores. Plus, many colleges look at the highest scores from each section, even if they weren't taken in the same sitting. So if you did really well on your other section, you can retake it later to improve your writing score and not worry about the other two.

I'd be really hesitant to cancel because I know I did really well with math and cr...so if this essay won't totally kill my score, then I guess I'll just see what I get and retake in may or june when I take my SAT IIs.

Thanks, all!
