Long story short, I got in a wreck Saturday morning and was incredibly stressed out while I was taking the test. I should have just walked away before I even took it, but I wasn’t thinking straight and just sat down and hammered through it. I know I did not preform to my full potential and I’m worried about what my scores will end up being. Should I just mail a letter and ask the ACT to cancel my scores or should I just deal with it?
I’m applying to Stanford and I know that they ask for every single score, but if the score isn’t there anymore is it still considered a score?
EDIT: Everyone I’ve talked to in person has told me to just delete it, but I’m still not sure it is the best solution.
If you think you did poorly then you should probably cancel the scores.
my daughter deleted a score taken junior year (not cancelled as she wanted to see her score first). Once deleted, there is no more trace of it, and therefore, nothing to send. However, keep in mind that it takes several weeks to get this process done ( few weeks for them to mail you the form to delete, and at least 6 weeks I think to get it deleted). However, you have enough time to get that done since you wont be applying till later this year. She was just accepted to Stanford last month.
@iska123 did you look into whether that violates the rules of requiring a submission of all testing? Anyone know?
I am genuinely asking because I have a kid who wants to take the ACT and do not think is ready. K2 is considering schools like UPenn that want all scores. I am very reluctant given that they are not score choice.
There is a record of the test if you signed up for the college search because colleges receive your name and score or score range.Even if deleted it was probably already sent out. Not sure whether a school like Penn would just not receive my kids information if kid gets a 27 the first time.
OP, from what I understand unless it changed in the last year, you cannot cancel an ACT score, you can just delete it after so you may as well see it but perhaps someone else can confirm that. If they changed the rules you obviously have a very short window to cancel (check the rules on ACT’s website.
Friend’s kid left out 10 questions, was sure got a score in the 20s, ended up with a 32 (later 35 on next test). SAT scores were the ones that you had a certain time period to cancel without seeing your score. No idea if they recently changed that with the new test.
once deleted, the scores are permanently removed from ACT site (you can check out the FAQ where ACT addresses this) . My D never opted for any schools to receive her score prior to testing , and it was not a state-mandated testing, and neither does her school put it in their transcript. I’m not sure about the college search you mentioned, as that may be a Collegeboard ( who administers the SAT) option-- remember, the ACT is administered by a different organization. Here’s a link I found that also addresses your question

Thank you. Will certainly think about it.
College search may be called something else on the ACTs, but the bottom line is they do give your scores to colleges they think may be interested in you. However, there is a way to opt out when you sign up to take the ACT which I may have K2 do when K2 signs up.
