I am working on my Associate degree for Liberal arts and science before transferring. I'm taking 6 classes (18 units) altogether, including lab. Here's my dilemma.

I took in total 3 science courses. The degree requires 4. I chose to take Chem 2. It has only been a little over a week in & I'm struggling with the course. I failed a quiz (consisting of chem 1 materials), and my professor questioned if i am even ready for Chem 2. I mean it's just a quiz, not a test. I want to test my ability on the first test, but unfortunately the last day to drop the course without a withdrawal grade is the 16, & my first test is held on the 28th. Should I drop the course, retake it in the summer (can use the break for preparation?) OR just reject the AS degree & transfer without a degree?

I also don't know how a AS degree would help me.
Also, if i decide to go on to graduate school, will it look better with a chemistry course or does it matter?

The other classes I'm taking are cal 2, accounting 1, child psy & intro the comp system, which will still makes me a full time student.
I'm a sophmore btw, with a total of 41 credits.

Any advice, anecdotes of similar experiences or opinion will all be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

I’d drop Chem II and shoot for A’s in Intro to CIS, Child Psy, and Accounting I and a B or better in Calc 2. That’s a well balanced doable schedule of classes right there and there is no need to overdo it.

Chem II can take quite a bit of time and dedication and sounds like will take time and effort away from acing the other 4 classes you are enrolled in. If you dig yourself too deep in Chem II it may not be worth the risk and ultimate pay off at the moment in that class or any of your others. It could reek potential damage to your other studies since realistically speaking, 5 classes can be a lot to juggle.

Sounds logical. However, if i decide to drop chem 2 this semester, should I still complete the LAS requirement by retaking chem 2 over in the summer? It may cost me over 1k for both chem & lab, which i don’t have. Is a LAS even beneficial? What if i plan to transfer without the completion of a LAS degree?

Thanks.

you are asking a tough question. Since you threw in the financial question. No one can give an answer to your question.

My first response would be to drop it. The other classes you are taking are tough enough.

well, what if i were to supposedly have 1k to spend. Would it be a good idea to use it for completion of LAS requirements?

If i drop chem, my credit for the semester would dip to 14. Using the gpa calculator, if i get all A’s, i would wind up with a cum gpa of 3.365. When i transfer, it will reset. If i plan on going to higher education, how would my GPA at my CC compare to my new transfer school? Is finishing with a 3.365 bad? Should i up it to a 3.4 by taking a class in the summer?

This maybe a good idea??

Get ahold of a practice test that covers the material you have covered in class. Take the test with the time you are alloted during the test. Then grade it. If you flat out flunk it? Drop the class. If make a C or better? I would stick it out.
