In my basic level English class at my CC, I failed to turn in a single assignment, which dropped me from an A to a C. This also means it is impossible for me to raise my grade to a A again. This kills my current 4.0 GPA and would hurt my chances at Berkeley in Computer Science. The thing is, I didn't even need to take this class, because I had the AP credits for it for IGETC, so I can choose to move onto the next level English class anyways.

I would definitely drop it. While you shouldn’t just worry about keeping you GPA up, you need to make wise decisions about when to stay in a class or not. Sometimes you may just need to drop it. I have dropped a few classes in my college career and I feel great about my decision to do so. There is no point in needlessly hurting you GPA with a class that you don’t even need.

The thing is, I’m not completely sure if I need the class or not. This is because I got a 3 on my AP Language/Comp and some accept it and some don’t. Is there anything that can help me find out more about it?

In my opinion, I think you should drop the course, especially since it may have a detrimental impact on your GPA and your chances at Berkeley . Like you said, this English class is not necessary, so I highly suggest that you drop this class. You know your priorities and what you need. Good luck!
