Hi,

I'm taking 14 units this semester. I'm taking a nontransferable math class, an Ethics class, an ancient philosophy class, and a modern philosophy class. I'd like to transfer to UCSB or UCLA as a philosophy major. My gpa is 3.91 and I'm in my school's TAP program.

I'm not doing all that well in my modern philosophy class...I have a C in it and I dread going to that class. UCLA requires that I take Ethics, a general philosophy class, logic, and an elective philosophy class. I plan to make my ancient philosophy class my elective to satisfy the requirement for the major. I was wondering if dropping the modern philosophy class will adversely affect my chances of gaining admission to UCLA and maybe other schools. I plan to retake it with another professor in the summer. I'm confident I can do better the next time around. It just seems that a C would be worse than getting a W and retaking the class to earn a higher grade.

Given my situation, am I screwed if I drop this class and retake it in the summer, or if I can't retake it all because it's unavailable? I should add that I've gotten 2 W's in my academic career, but one was in a nontransferable math class(It was remedial algebra) and the other was in a general education course not related to my major.

Thanks in advance.
