The question is reasonably self explanatory. My high school graduation falls on the same day and time as another very big ceremony, which is on a national scale. My high school graduation is definitely extremely important to me so I can see myself and my classmates graduate, but the national ceremony is also an extraordinary once in a lifetime opportunity that could also lead to negative consequences for the organization running it if I do not attend. In addition, I would be speaking at both my graduation (possible commencement speaker) and the national ceremony (as an honoree). Which event would you recommend I attend and why? Thank you so much–I need quick advice, so I appreciate any swift answers.
Heres my swift answer: choose the national ceremony UNLESS you don’t receive your high school diploma if you don’t attend.
The Val at my daughter’s school miss the high school ceremony to be in the state track meet. He recorded his speech and they showed the video.
I’d go to the one you want to go to. People have conflicts all the time. Prince William needs to be at his brother’s wedding and at the soccer match on Saturday. He has to make a decision.
Agree, decide which is more important to you and your family and attend that ceremony. Nobody here should decide that for you.
What YOU want is more important than any consequences to the national organization. If they really wanted you there, maybe they should have checked on your schedule first? Maybe you can record a video for the national organization to play in your absence?
I know a student athlete who missed her graduation ceremony for a state tournament. It happens. But you get to decide which one is more meaningful for you to attend.
I would hope a national organization would understand if you choose to attend your high school graduation.
I would go to the national event IMO. Yes, high school graduation may seem really significant now, but when you’re 50, you would probably prefer going to the national event instead of sitting in the same room with classmates who you’ll eventually lose contact with and receive a piece of paper for all your hard work in high school.
@happy1 sorry I didn’t mean to “decide” for OP, I just wanted to give my opinion.
Speak to your parents. It may make a huge difference to them.
