Should I raise my 27 on the ACT or my 1720 on the SAT?

I took the SAT for the first time in January and got a 580 in reading, 610 in math, and 530 in writing.
I took the ACT in February and I got a composite score of 27. Reading 31, Math 25, Science 22, and English/writing 26.
I am trying to get into either UVA or James Madison. I want to only focus on one test and put all my effort into studying for it.

Pick whichever one you prefer. Do you like studying vocab, not as much math–pick SAT. Like comprehending articles, but you don’t like science–pick SAT.

your 27 on the ACT is considered a substantially higher score and your scores don’t match up in the sections i.e
31 reading to 580 reading so we cant really tell what your strong points are so it is hard to tell whether you are stronger in math or reading or writing. Therefore we cant direct to either the more math based ACT or the more reading and writing based SAT. I would just say go with whatever test you felt more comfortable with(which looks like the ACT)

Thank you @AZGrove and @paddyf I liked the ACT more. I didn’t really know what to expect for the science section so I think I could do a lot better now that I have taken it.

ya i did the same thing with the science on the ACT the first time you take it is kind off putting. Good Luck.

Stick with the ACT, you did much better. For ACT science the key is speed.

On the February test, I was so worried about the science. I was only able to really grasp the first 5 sections and then had to speed through the last 2. Luckily I got a 34 on it though!

Practice, practice, practice. That’s the key!

Thank you everyone! @AZGrove Science was really tricky for me on the February test. I spent way to much time on one problem.
