Hi everyone! I’m going to a cc in California this year with the hopes of transferring to USC Marshall or UC Berkeley Haas. Unfortunately I’m not doing so well in one of my prerequisite classes and I’m going to end up with a C at the most. So my question is whether or not I should get a D in the class so that I can be eligible to repeat it to get a better grade or if I should just stick to getting a C on my transcript. I don’t know if these schools would calculate the GPA based on the better grade or if they average everything, including the failing grade. My GPA is currently a 3.8 and besides this one class, I have an A in all my classes. Any feedback would be appreciated!
I say stick it out and get your grade up! Go to your college tutroing center, get extra help. Don’t deliberately get a D, bad move.
I strongly agree with Lindagaf (above). Get whatever help is available and invest the time and energy to at least get a C and possibly improve to the B range. Also check the policy at your cc regarding whether you can repeat a course (in your case possibly with a C grade) and, if so, how the grade is managed on your transcript and GPA. For example, does the college average the two grades? Or does it count just the original grade from the perspective of GPA?
