Hey all,
I recently received my SAT scores, and after pondering for over a week, I am still torn over whether I should retake a 2290. I plan on applying to HYPS. What is your advice?
The advice I’ve been given, as a general rule, not sure how it applies to HYPS, is that you want math + CR = 1500+
If it’s bellow that try again but don’t take the SAT more than 3 times. Again, just repeating what I’ve been told, so take it for what it’s worth.
Hi! That is a really good score. How many times have you taken the SAT already? If this is your first time, definitely take it again just to see if you can get a higher score. If not, I would think about retaking it, but you really don’t have to if your GPA, ECs, and essays are good. Test scores aren’t everything, and you’re definitely in a good place as it is. Retake it if this was your first time, and if you think you can go even higher. Good luck!
If you taken the SAT once or twice then take it again.
Unless you got a spread of 800/800/690, I wouldn’t retake.
I think it depends on how much effort you put in for your 2290. If you didn’t prepare much, and 2290 is your first test, then definitely take it again – you might have potential to get 2350 - 2400. However, if you studied a lot then perhaps you should just “settle” for this excellent SAT score. I find that for SAT (and studying in general), there’s an aspect of diminishing returns; the more you study and try to get better, the less improvement and harder it is for you to get, eg it’s much easier to go from a 1500 to a 1700 than a 2200 to a 2400.
I also got a 2290 my first time and brought it up to a 2330 my second, 2350 superscore. If that was your first try, it may be worth it to give it another shot.
NO school, including HYPS is going to give a crap whether you score a 2290 or a 2350. My D worked in admissions at an elite school, and a one time great score was much more impressive to the admmissions committee than retaking for a few better points.
Wouldn’t bother.
