Retake 2290?

I’ve taken the SAT two times, superscored 2290 (720 CR 780 M 790 W). I’m aiming for HYPS schools, and I know that my CR. Do you think I should retake to try to get the 2300 (psychological power) and 750+ in CR, or just be done with it? I would appreciate any advice.

2290 is an amazing score and doesn’t really need to be retaken, especially if it’s the third time. I would just keep this score if I were you, but I do understand the appeal of achieving the 2300 threshold. Ultimately up to you, but once you get 2250+ there is basically no difference between scores.

@kazee123 Lol let me know how you plan on taking it again?

I mean you really dont have a choice. Also 2290 is amazing and it wont look worse than a 2300.

@kazee123 The new SAT is out of 1600. So besides the fact that a 2300 is now impossible, you would also have to get used to the format/content of the new test.

And schools won’t superscore across the new and old tests.

The new SAT is in a different format. I don’t think it would be worth it for you to learn how to take a new test. 2290 is decent, just make sure you have a good GPA to further your academic merit in the eyes of colleges.

I actually just took the test today again (makeup from January). Thanks for all of your advice, I’m hoping to cross the 2300 barrier. It probably sounds silly to retake a 2290, but I guess I’m just doing this for my own sake; I don’t want to regret not taking it during the last chance I had.

Best Wishes! It is so hard to determine what small aspect of someones application submission may make the difference with the Elite schools. That fine line between being compulsive and just trying to bring your scores up a bit more. Beyond three times would seem compulsive to me (for what ever that is worth).
I hope your GPA and recommendation letters and your essays in conjunction with your standardized test scores get you where you want to go!

@GreatKid

Thanks!
I agree, I think taking the SAT 4 times is definitely excessive, 3 is probably pushing it. But hey, if I get the 2300+ it’ll definitely be worth the extra attempt.

Another consideration is in the merit aid area with other schools. If you are applying to schools that award merit aid. That little bit extra may enable you to secure higher awards.
Our daughter was admitted to three Elites and her SAT scores were not as high as yours (our daughter is a Sophomore in college presently). The across the board strength of your application submission is what it is all about.
Sincere Best Wishes!
