Should I retake Math IIC?

So, my story is that I skipped the second semester of Algebra II and the first of Precalc - long story short. When I took Math IIC, I had only a rough outline of the math skills I needed to score well.

I scored a 750, which seems to be on the "great" side of the SAT II scores scale according to most posters. But I want to apply to top math/science schools (MIT, Caltech, CMU) as a CS major.

And when I took the ACT, I got a 36 (36E, 36R, 36S, 34M). I'm afraid that math will be seen as the weak point in my app if I don't retake.

My question is, should I retake Math IIC? I will be taking SAT II Bio anyway, so why not just do two tests at the end of the year?

I'm a junior in AP Calc AB, btw. And my mother wants me to sign up for all of my tests SOON, because she thinks I'll forget to do it later..... whatever.....

I have a question in a similar vein, but sort of the opposite in a way.

I only scored a 700 on Math II, but it is quite obvious from my app that humanities are my strength (e.g. I made an 800 on Lit).

So I'm interested to hear these responses....

hookem, I don't think the 700 on MathII will hurt your applications at all if your other scores are in range and it's clear you're a humanities guy. I mean, if you feel confident you could take it again and score higher, and you don't need that test taking date for some other test more... then it wouldn't hurt, I don't suppose to take it again. But all by itself, I don't think it's a deal breaker. What colleges are you thinking of? What's your score on the math portion of the SAT I?

Not sure what to say to the OP. I don't have much experience or knowledge of admissions at math/science schools.

@ the OP...it can't hurt you to retake it if you're 2010. If you think you can retake it and do better, then by all means, do so.

Only 428 people got a 36 on the ACT, you're FINE. A 34 is fantastic on Math, I got 35 and they won't care anything about that difference. Everyone is competitive, but MIT will really be kicking themselves hard if they're comparing two 36s and one has a 34M and the other has a 36M. You have the numbers of admissions almost covered, your application and ECs will matter more.

As for Math II, retake it. You know that -6=800 in some cases, but below 800 is the 93 percentile. You definitely want to get 800 on Math II for MIT. 34 M on ACT and a 800 on SAT I Math won't substitute for it I guess you could say.

An 800 Math Level 2 is the 90th percentile; so below an 800 is, in fact, below the 90th percentile. Ouch!
