I am a high school junior, and have taken the SAT for the first time. I got a 1380/1600 (720CR, 660M), and I got a 640W.

My college list is as follows:

Cornell
MIT
Caltech
Stanford

UCLA

Syracuse U
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
SUNY Buffalo
Boston University

I'm in the upper 30 percent of scores in the lower four schools, and towards the lower 30 percent in the upper 5 schools. I will be in the top 10 out of 130, with a 3.7 or so G.P.A.

Should I retake the SAT?
On one hand, I think I could break 1400, and certainly do better on the writing even though it isnt as important as CR/M. On the other hand, studying more will be time away from my schoolwork and extracurriculars. Considering the schools I am looking at, what do you think would be the wise choice?

retake. If you dont, i dont see you getting into any high math based school with < 700 on math.

btw junior or senior?

That's what retakes are for--so that juniors can boost their scores by the time they are seniors and applying for college.

myworld00, I chose SUNY Buffalo as my safety because it's one of the 4 biggest/prestigious public schools in my state and the only one that offers Aerospace Engineering. I consider it my safety because I just don't see what stops me from getting in, and a relative works in the SUNY system.

retake again...you have nothing to lose
