I’m certainly not someone on these forums with stellar stats. I took the SAT in June 2017 (for the first time), as a junior. I used up basically all of the 8 official practice tests from college board. I got a 1350 composite (670 R/W 680 Math). I was honestly hoping for something in the 1400s. I’m now a senior and am contemplating to retake it or to take the ACT for the first time. On practice tests, I am consistently getting 26s (but I have many more official practice tests), which is relatively poorer to a 1350 SAT. I am planning on doing RD for all my colleges. Do you think I should take the SAT again (despite having no more official practice tests) or take the ACT (after trying to practice much more)? Thank you for your time!
Can you take both? It’s about $60 and a Saturday morning to at least try the ACT (with writing) for real. My son did better on the actual ACT test than his practice tests (yet his actual SAT scores were a little bit lower than practice tests, so go figure).
Taking the SAT again will allow you to superscore at many schools, and as you noted, your SAT is better than your ACT practice scores; so if there’s only time/money for one, I’d recommend another SAT.
^^agreed. If you have the time and the money, then do both…but the 1350 is not bad, it depends on your target list of schools or whether you aim at merit aid.
Since your current practice score is not better than your SAT score, you may want to focus on the SAT practice and retake. It does not make sense to get an ACT score that is lower than your corresponding SAT score. There are many more practice test materials available. Try Khan’s Academy, Princeton Review and Kaplan’s website. Also, check your school or local library for practice books. My Ds went through 20-30 practice tests most on the practice books checked out from public library.
