Should I retake the SAT?

I've taken it twice already.

My first scores were: CR 660, M 710, W 730.
The second time: CR 670, M 660, W 790.

Combined score would be a 2170.

I learned a LOT of vocab between the tests to try to improve my CR, yet it only went up by 10, but this time I'd focus more on getting better at the questions on reading passages.

I didn't focus on math at all for the second test, but I will if I retake it (and I'm not concerned about writing, I got a perfect on the writing MC last time, I just ran out of time on the essay and got a 9, rather than a 10 that could have made my score an 800).

My score is good enough for some of the schools I'm applying to, but for the more selective ones, like Georgetown, UPenn, and Johns Hopkins, should I retake it?

I feel like my CR is too low. Georgetown doesn't even look at writing, and I'm majoring in International Relations which doesn't pertain much to math, so I feel like CR is probably most important.

You are more likely to be evaluated on the 1380 (cr/math) than the 2170, and that will qualify you for a lot of fine schools but probably not the schools that you identified. This assumes that there is not another factor that makes you a desired candidate. If you are set on those schools, I’d recommend taking it one more time.

^I agree. I don’t think it can hurt and I bet you’ll improve if you study like you described. October SAT deadline is September 10 :)
