Should I retake US History?

I took US in May and got a 690. I'm in APUSH, and my class hadn't finished the curriculum before the test (yes, a week before... we didn't finish before the AP either) and I hadn't started my self-study cramming yet. I'm generally a very strong history student. I've talked to my guidance counselor and my teacher, and both think I'm crazy for wanting to retake a 690 (my school is generally filled with "underacheivers" by CC standards as far as subject tests go). I'm pretty confident I'd do better on the second go around because I'd have finished the APUSH curriculum, but I can't retake in June because of a scheduling situation, and by the time I'd be able to in October or November, I think summer-itis might have taken its toll on that knowledge. I was planning on taking Italian in November, so I'd probably double up, but I'm going back and forth on the Italian thing, and I might end up not taking it anyway.

Including the current US grade, I'd have two tests under my belt (the other score was well above 700). I'm not applying to HYP, and probably half of the schools I'm applying to don't even require SAT II's. I plan on applying EA to most of my schools, and I think a late testing date might hurt me more than help me in those respects. So is it even worth it to retake?

If any of the schools you are applying to require 2 SAT 2’s then I would say go for it if you think you can significantly improve it. If you think your score may only be 10-20 points higher or possibly lower than the original, I would not take it.

Check with the schools, many will accept scores from the same month the apps are due.
