(So I kinda didnt know where to throw this question, so I thought I’d throw it in here, I’ll keep it short and sweet)

Next year im taking this community college course for U.S. History, and taking the AP test is an option at the end of the year (although nobody in my school really does). I don’t know if I wanna self the Ap course because even though I would get college credit Idk if I would use. I’m probably going to major in Biology in college, so would I still need to take history courses for like GE requirements or something? Because if I have to take it in college, I probably will self-USH (as long as its doable, which I am also not sure about).

Undergrads at colleges generally have to take a history course, and passing an AP history course may exempt you from taking such a history course as an undergrad. That goes no matter what the major.

That’s a plus, since you won’t be in a lecture hall at college with 300-400 other freshmen listening to a professor lecture to you about US history. That’s not fun, especially when it’s your second time.

I don’t see a reason not to take the APUSH exam, seeing that your going to a community college to study it.

APUSH shouldn’t be hard with a supportive teacher and of course, good review books. There are several current threads concerning good review books.

And check with your college of choice to see if AP history credits count, and what you need. Some colleges take 3s. Others take 4s. Some take 3s but only give you a certain amount of history credit and more if you get a 4.

Thanks guys! As soon as I find out more about the exam, I think I’m going to tell my couselors/parents and teacher of course. My USH does MUN with me, so she’ll be supportive I’m sure. I’m also going to do ap psych with this. YAYYY. idk why im happy about studying but YAYYY no introductory history in college!!!

MUN= Model united Nations. It a club in my school and we go to different college campuses to meet other high school students and debate about resolutions to current problems and stuff. its so much fun!! Even though I hardly do anything haha.if your school has it, you should do it! teaches public speaking.

Wait… I took general psych at community college and I was told not to take the AP test because it would count towards the same exact credits as the course did. Don’t you get college credits for taking history at the community college?

yeah you do get college credits, but the credits don’t necessarily transfer to all colleges. I’m going to guess that Harvard University or whatever will not accept credits from a lowly little community college. Sure, they might say '“oh wow shes challenging herself!” but they might not accept it. But they WILL accept the ap, as long as one gets the required score. The Ap test just igves you more security that work efforts didnt go to waste I guess.
