Should I send a thank-you card or email after a graduate school interview?

Hello, everyone! I hope that you’re all doing well!

A couple of days ago, I interviewed with the University of Florida’s Counselor Education program. Now, for whatever reason, I later decided to Google what one is supposed to do after a graduate school interview and, according to a couple of different sources, one is supposed to send either a card or an email thanking either one’s interviewer or one’s potential advisor (this doesn’t apply to me) for their time and things like that.

Is that something that any of you have done and/or would recommend doing? If so, who did you send it to (my situation is made a bit more complicated by the fact that two different people interviewed me), what did you say to them besides something like “Thank you very much for your time” and “It was a pleasure making your acquaintance,” and did you send them an email or a card?

Thank you all very much in advance for your time and assistance! Have a great day!

My son followed up the day after with a thank you for your time email. He got in : )

Just send an email, not a card. You can send an email separately to both of the people who interviewed you.

It doesn’t have to be elaborate; think about it the same way you would send a follow-up for a job interview:

-Thank them for their time/for interviewing you.
-Reiterate one or two points you talked about, and how much you enjoyed discussing them.
-Reiterate your excitement about their program and that you are looking forward to hearing from them soon.

If I interviewed two equally qualified applicants and one sent me a prompt email expressing enthusiasm for my program, I would accept that student.

My son sent thank you emails to everyone who interviewed him. He also thanked the grad students who hosted them. He’s still waiting for decisions.

Thank you all very much for your assistance and prompt replies! I found everyone’s responses to be helpful.
