Hey guys! I got my Math II score last week (740) and was quite happy with it until I found out that it's only in the 76th percentile. Since subject tests are optional, do you guys think I should send my score in to UC Berkeley? Thanks!

It’s actually the 65th percentile. (http://media.collegeboard.com/digitalServices/pdf/research/SAT-Subject-Tests-Percentile-Ranks-2012.pdf)

Yes. Any scores above 700 are really good, even at Berkeley and even if you’re applying to EECS. Keep in mind percentiles are relative, and while 65th percentile doesn’t sound good, that is compared to the highest level of college-bound students around the world. The best of the best. In fact, an 800 is the 85th percentile. That provides some context.

Oops I was looking at the percentiles from years ago. Thanks for your advice!! And yes it’s comforting that 800 is the 85th percentile!

No problem :). Good luck applying to Cal! May the odds be forever in our favor ;)
